Would you be wanting to post that tape if you lost 0-12?
Put it up.

ok I got my first video. I wanted to post this so you all can critique my "powerlifting" bench form. I need to get this down, so tell me how I did. I used 275 for 3 reps and it felt remarkably easy for some reason, considering I struggled at the gym on tuesday with 245 for 6. The reps went up good and the elbow felt fine, considering i only warmed up with a couple of sets at 135 and 185.

Solid reps bro but a couple things. You could definitely get a better arch going. You want your feet to at least be under your ass. Bring 'em back a bit more. Also, hard to tell, but I don't think your keeping your shoulder blades tight and squeezed together. Makes the lift easier, but it also makes unracking the weight yourself a lot harder.

I know I made a point when I began to squeeze my shoulder blades together, whether or not that fell apart as I went, I don't know, but I know I started that way.
For fooling around, the weight went up pretty easily, I don't know if I can attribute that to a fluke or if the powerlifting setup really does make a big difference, cause like I said, I struggled the other day with 245 on the bar, benching regular style.

Nevermind it worked now. That weight is too easy for you dude. You're also going way too slow. On the way down you're fighting it, on the way up you're pressing too slow, explode off ur chest with it. Also you're bringing the weight a little bit too high up on your chest. Ideally you'll be strongest when you're elbows are directly under the weight, this is where your forearms are perpendicular to the ground. I'd say bring the weight 1/2-1inch further down on your chest.
It's also tough to tell from that angle, but it doens't look like ur moving the bar bcak over your chin area either, looks like ur pushing straight up. Try to get a \ angle going with the bar. It helps believe me. If you ever get caught half way up, a good thing to try is squeeze the bar and drive it back over your head. It seems to go up easier when you do that. Just don't dump it .
Your feet shoudl be placed further back like gcs said. Watch these videos for bench setup..

Notice his feet are tucked under his ass. He's up on his toes but he's driving his heels to the floor (not touching the floor though). That'll help give you a bigger arch.
Weight was WAY too easy there . With all these flaws in your setup you still moved that weight easy. Wait till you get the good technique, you'll be even stronger.

i think part of the reason I was going slow was cause I was afraid for my elbows, plus, never lifting like that before with that much weight, I just wanted to make sure. I really concentrated on trying to move the bar in a slant, I knew about it, whether I actually did it or not, I couldn't tell you, as like you said, you can't tell from the angle I shot it from.
and trust me, that was much lower than I usually bring the bar on my chest, believe it or not. I had a habit of finding my groove somewhere between my collar bone and my nipples, probably close to my collar bone, gee now that I think about it, I wonder why I hurt my shoulder.
It looked easy, but remember that was just one set of 3. I doubt I can do 6 sets of 3 with that right now.

That's why you keep seeing me telling people to tuck their elbows. It forces you to bring the bar lower. Bringing it to your upper chest is ridiculous and is just ASKING for shoulder problems.
With your technique fixed up you can do 275 for 6 x 3 easily. I'm positive. 3 min rest in between sets.

well since you always preach not to be afraid of heavy weight, I might just give it a shot and see how it goes.
I am sure this is an obvious answer, but on the 6x3 if you miss reps in the last couple of sets, you just keep the same weight and try again the next week right?

No you should change the routine then becasue it ain't working. You dont 'want to start at the maximum weight you can get for 6 x 3. You wanna start about10-15 lbs lighter than that, something easy. Get your mind stronger and stronger every week, more confident. It's a mental battle more than a physical one.

That link doesn't work. You need to copy the link of the actual file. You can see it because you are logged in under your account.
When i click that link, it takes me to putfile.com, not your file.
