I always pull "hookgrip" now-a-days, I just built up to it slowly, just jumping into it on heavy weight will kill your thumbs, I'd say to pull hookgrip on all your warm-up sets and set pr's everytime with the hookgrip, if 585 is your limit, work with the low 500's for awhile and just keep going up.
I once pulled 2-singles with like 430 standing on a 45lb plate, at the time I had just started pulling with hookgrip in the 400's, the side of my thumb by the nail didn't feel normal again unit about a month, yet I still pulled hookgrip but worked back up to it.
The heaviest I've gone hookgrip was a 500 rackpull, no problems, although full ROM does hurt the thunbs more for sure.

The one thing i try to keep in my head when going heavy is keep your chin up and i look at myself in the mirror to aid in keeping my back straight.

P.s
id make a film but i dont have anyone to film me. I workout at gym only.

face away from the mirror. sounds like your upper back needs some work to keep from rounding off.

Upper back rounding is nowhere near as bad as rounding your lower back, though.

If you go to FortifiedIron.com and look at Assmaster's deadlifts you will see he rounds his back and he's pulling a ****load of weight. He finds it shortens the ROM.

I would be more concerned, like i said, with the lower back. As long as that's good you are set pretty much.

if you round the entire pull then it dont shorten the stroke. generally rolling the shoulders forward close to lockout knocks several inches off the dead. if your back is rounded over at lockout youll never get the down command.

Can we keep this post for video clips only and make threads for back rounding discussions?

I got a camera, but no one to tape me. I'll tape my 315 squat next week if I remember and I'll see if I can get a set of 3x3 @ 200 on bench as well.

first official attempt at GHR (11 reps) - form not perfect: footrest too far away (it's how the gym PT set it up for me yesterday) so my knees are below the pad, not on it. exmgq suggested that i raise the foot rest to more of an incline to make it more challenging.

crap - gimme a minute - need to fix it a bit.

Actually, threenorns, if you think about it, what is the most difficult part in a GHR?... when you're "locking out", when your torso is parallel with the ground, when you're working directly against gravity. If you raise the legs, you cut your range of motion so that you're practically doing a backbend before your torso even reaches parallel.
