I won my first meet!

Haven't posted for a while so it feels good to be back!
Well, I just won my bodyweight group (under 100kg) and I came 7th overall in the National Pro-Fitness New Zealand powerlifting meet. I had a good day; I weighed in at 67.3kg / 148lbs, I was the lightest person competing. The winner was a 117kg freak, and the guy in 2nd place was even bigger at 141kg! Apparrently the judges said that their lifting was up to international standards - not bad for little old New Zealand! Here were my best lifts on the day:

Squat: 140kg / 308lb
Bench press: 95kg / 209lb (had first lift disallowed, should have been able to get 100kg) :
Deadlift: 175kg / 385lb

Here are few pics of me in training about 2 weeks before the competition, hope you like them...

Cheers guys

BigJim.

Yeah, it was a great day! I trained for about 8 weeks specifically for this meet, man I never thought it would be harder than my BB'ing training! Mainly I focused on the big lifts, I threw in a few exercises that would benefit me - some shoulder pressing work, close grip benches etc. It was a little wierd not hitting my biceps & calves for 2 months!

Just the whole atmosphere of the day was cool, it was the first time I had been to a powerlifting event. The judges were pretty tough, a lot of the big guys had their lifts disallowed even if they did look like there was nothing wrong! I got all of it on DVD too as my training partner was filming it - handy too see what your form was like!

I had the advantage of being up 7th, so I had a little time to both watch a few others do their lifts and wrap myself. First time I stuffed up and wrapped too early... I couldn't feel anything below my knees by the time I was at the squat rack!

Thanks for the comments guys. I know I can lift more, I was actually a little annoyed I didn't go for a little heavier on the day. I could have done 145kg, 100kg and 180kg for the 3 lifts, but I opted to play safe. I managed to hit 4 plates a side on the deadlift a couple of times in training. Oh well - at least I have something to aim for now for the next one :
