Luke & Dan - care to share what happened in your recent contest? I'm curious!

And if this was posted already and I missed it -- Oooops!

thanks iron, I was going to get to it sometime this week.

Dan did a write-up on his site in his class.

As for me, not a great day, actually everyone seemed to be having a hard day, lots of bloody hands, a bicep tear, slippery stones, hot sun.

I weighed in at 194.5, there were 5guys in my group, hard competition as well, hardest comp. too date, and I do hope and expect it to be harder next year.

1st was the log clean and press for reps (jerks allowed) 220lbs 10"log, I had trained up to 190-200lbs on Grahams 12"log on this, I've never been able to pop over 190 on my wooden log........WTF. after using Grahams 12"er I had a great vision of getting at least 1rep on this contest, as confident as I felt, it just didn't happen, on the warm-ups that 10"seemed alittle harder for some reason than the 12"log.
I tied for 4th with no presses, (but very strong cleans) as another guy supriseenly didn't press it eithier.

next "farmers walk" 260an arm 20yards out and back, 350lb waddle walk 5yards out and back, every guy dropped these farmers at the turn, most just barley finished the farmers course, and only had a few steps with the waddle, I was so confident here, I was the only guy to make a good smooth turn without dropping them, but I gotta say at the turn those farmers felt way heavy (not grip, but on my traps) I dropped them about 10' or so after the turn, I took afew breaths, lifted them, went a few feet, then went down with them, 3rd lift went halfway, I had nothing left, don't know what the hell happened here, my mind started to get to me, I was thinking about the heat and the heaviness? The guy who went after me came back with two bloody hands, that looked horrible (thats why I train grip!!!!) after that it seemed half the feild came back with blood hands. All you saw the rest of the day were heavily bandaged hands, one guy whos been here 3years now, does it everytime, it's getting amusing.

A mistake might have been not training long distance farmers, oh well, I like to train them heavy as possible, if I only do a hold or only carry them 50', thats how I like to train.

next was tire flip, even here I just felt drained not as motivated as usual, I think I got 9flips in (got 10 in may) placed well here though.

conanas wheel, I was feeling really up to this, 500loaded (about 570 or more total weight) that sucker always feels like a ton from the start (you can never ever compare differant wheels, they all feel differant) I managed 1-full rotation + 10' or so, placed well.

last was stones, I didn't get the crap end of the stick like most here, but I only loaded the 245lber, I was an inch from getting the 270 (high platform) (not getting that stone cost me 4th place) A fifth (last place finish ha ha) however when I think about it, I had zero injuries, not so much as a strain, and too even give these guys a contest by keeping up makes me feel good. missed by a 1/2point.

there were some freaky guys in my class, and more freaks in the 230, however I wouldn't of of placed last or even second too last if I was in the heavier class???, gives me some hope when I am heavier.

My write-up can be found at www.bemoretraining.com

Luke, you think you would have placed higher as a 231? I didn't see the entire line-up of the light weight guys but I know there were some real monsters in the 231's.

Now that I think about it though, I probably could have taken first as a super-heavy... the guy that won beat Barry, and that was his first comp.

I saw a few guys who didn't get close to a full rotation on the conans wheel, some hard struggles on tire flips, and farmers walks????, plus Graham didn't press or load the first stone, but then again he got the crap end of the stick on that, so maybe I'm wrong here? souldn't say it, until it comes down to it, right?

but yeah, some monsters in the 230, big group anyway, 2nd placer was awsome, and he looked to be natural as well?

yeah, Barry stopped flipping the tire at like 7flips, he said thats all he needed for 1st place, he stopped short on other events for the same reason.

Lots of SHW's this year, I've never seen that many before.

I don't like when people do that.

I agree, because if your just doing the bare minimum, you don't push yourself as much and won't get better.

Dan - I looked around the site and couldn't find your write up. It was probably right under my nose but never saw it. Where do I find it?

Luke, nice job! Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. Bummer to hear about having such a tough time. Heat is a killer, both physically and mentally. Wish I had some sage advice for you, but from my perspective, simply being in the competition is impressive.

I got the chance to watch the "Beast of the East" competition in Myrtle Beach this past March and it is a wonder to me that more guys don't get injured. Those lifts are killers - especially the atlas stones.

Two thumbs up for both of you! ::

There's a link to it right on the front page. On the right, with the word "NEW" flashing next to it.

Ahhh... but if your screen is not maximized, that window ends up at the bottom of the page. But it is there.

I like that Dan. Very good philosophy. Won't be long before you are taking first place!

Sorry I missed it the first time around. I wasn't looking at the sides of the sites as I figured it was all ads.
