mid-atlantic 2007 strongman

I weighed in at 187 with clothes, shoes, keys, I couldn't even eat my breakfast that morining (I got down about 2-eggs, and a half toast) my anxiety for these things are more uncontrolable than ever it seems.
It's just that this event was so heavy (heavist am. show in the country?)

I had 2-events that have been on my mind and thats the farmers walk, and super-yoke, I feared about not finishing the super-yoke (I've never finished one before) and not even lifting the farmers (these jumped up a total of 80lbs)

I was told there were 7guys in my class (2 did not show-up) so it was 5 of us.

event #1 230log press (I didn't even get a clean)

now thats out of the way, I started to warm-up right away with the super-yoke

event #2 super-yoke 710 60'? finished it PR! / 1-flip of the tire (tire is heavier this year 725ish) tied for second place here.

during that event a friend in our class tore his ACL he left in a strecher, so now it's 4 of us

event #3 farmers walk 300an arm 55'
during my warm-ups with 235-245an arm they felt so damn heavy, my back was already fried from that yoke, I was not feeling good about this.

I got the deadlift PR!, and only managed about 5' or so of a carry, I placed 3rd here

so now it was me and my old rivial Rob (who took last year off) battleing for 3rd overall.

event #4 stones
we used to start with stones around 230-240ish, now the first one was 260, well I don't train these, and really hate this event, I didn't even get the first one loaded (2-tries) platforms as usual are high, Rob was doing well as usual, but tweaked his hamstring on his stones, he dropped out.

event #5 280hydent carry/chain drag
don't know what happened here, I didn't get a good grip on the hydrent and I was tired, when I hit the turn with the hydrent I just couldn't control it rolling out of my grip, I didn't make it to the chain.

3rd place overall

I already signed my waver and paid entry fee for august 4th "marylands strongest" that contest will be even heavier.

I feel good though, just some sorness I even went for a 6 min. semi-light run on sunday.

Excellent showing luke! :

I can't even begin to imagine how it feels to compete in one of those.

I've got pictures and video... right on the same card that the footage from the last contest was taken on. Yeah, I'm a slacker...

I had a pretty good day myself. First of all I had fun, second no injuries (that alone makes for a good day) and third I set a few PR's!

The heavyweights went in a slightly different order than the lightweights, and of course the weights were a little heavier.

My day started with a 280lb log clean... no press. My previous best log press was 242 so I knew I had little chance of this, as did the 3 other guys in my weightclass that failed to get it overhead.

Next event was the farmers walk, 330 an arm for 25 yards. I had expected to win this event but after a strong pick up I felt my grip going at about halfway as my thighs rubbed against my thumb with each step, loosening my grip. I dropped it at the last second, with one implement landing 6" off the finish line. I had to pick it up again and cross the line which cost me one second. My time was 15 seconds and some change, first place was 14 seconds and some change, second place was a fraction of a second faster than my time. So that drop cost me two placings.

Next event was the yoke/tire medley - 800lb yoke, 725lb(?) tire. I took first in this, finishing the yoke walk with 2 or 3 drops and getting 2.5 flips on the tire before the time was up. I was the only one in my weightclass to make it to the tire.

Next event was the dreaded carry and drag. A fire hydrant filled with concrete and lead (315lbs) taken 15 yards out and back, followed by a 600lb chain drag. I finished the course in 1:04. It took about everything I had to win 5th place... the guy that came in last didn't even make it halfway through the carry!

Last event was the stones, I loaded 3 for third place in this event. Two other guys loaded 4 stones. Those guys placed first and second overall. One of the guys, Jamey Norweji, just went pro last year and the other guy, Jason Dayberry (my brother in-law) is a nationally ranked bodybuider. I placed third overall behind the two of them, who are both very much stronger than me if you gauge strength by squatting, deadlifting and pressing. It would have been cool to beat the bodybuilder just so I could have something to talk smack about at the dinner table.

Afterwards we went back to Graham's house for beef, beer and big fat stogies.

It was a good day.

You guys are simply freakin' awesome! I can't get over the amount of weight used in those events. Obviously you guys are in an elite class of lifters/strongmen.

Congrats to all!

Congratulations to you too Dan!

I think that coming out of an event like that without an injury considering what you do is amazing.
