Dave asked me to tell you guys about the meet because he has chosen to not frequent this site anymore. I got up at 6:30am and drove about a 100 miles to Fremont, Ohio to see Dave and the others lift. The meet was to start at 9am and ended around 4pm if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, Dave was in the 308 novice class, as it was his first meet. He nailed all of his squat attempts, 285, 315, and 345. He hit his bench at 225, and 245, but missed 255. Keep in mind these were paused reps, and the judge seemed to like long pauses. Dave pulled 435 and 465, but BARELY missed 500. He was literally a couple inches away, but it just wasn't happening. Final total is 1055, not bad for a first meet.
There were various other highlights to the meet. Dave pointed out Louie Simmons, but I didn't get a chance to meet him. If you don't know who he is, go read. Clay Brandenburg from DBB was there, 1 of 11 800+ benchers in the world. This guy is HUGE. Laura Felps set the women's world record in teh 181
weight class with a 725 squat, which she got easy. I talked to a guy from her gym and she's going to be in the 165s going for 760-780 at the Arnold. Insane. And she went to the high school right next to mine which is pretty weird, I found that out tonight too.
I saw one guy squat 1005 lbs, another almost got crushed by 1055 when it fell on him. Saw multiple 700+ lb
bench presses, and an 855 lb deadlift to top it all off. It was a relatively small meet, even though it seemed to last a long time. If it weren't for my hammy I most likely would have entered and competed myself, but I want to be 100% for my first meet. I think Dave did a damn good job at his first meet. All the people I met were great, very helpful and nice, I didn't see any signs of egos whatsoever. A great experience and I can't wait to compete myself
