Lukey boy, you are totally twisting what I said.

A few years ago, I said that it was a states rights issue during a drug discussion...if state "a" wants to legalize pot use and state "b" wants to execute for simple posession - that's their business, which has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion at hand. I'm still as anit-drug use as I always was. I'm still a respecter of other's accomplishments - no matter what.

Yet again we have another "Luke and Dan - everyone who doesn't want to train like we do and soak up the BS we dispense is an idiot because we are the only ones who know anything about training" thread.

It's pretty simple really, if someone wants to train a certain way - then the accomplishments they make are something we should be proud of them for, not demean them because they used "equipment" or whatever to do.

duuuh.

The funny thing is, I'm closer to you guys in training philosophy since I don't use belts, straps, spotters, or anything like that. If it's not my weight, if I can't handle it on my own, if I can't unrack it by myself to bench it without a handoff...it doesn't belong to me so I don't lift it. However, what business do I have trying to tell obviously stronger men and women that their training is wrong - they deserve respect for what they've done - it obviously worked for them. I like your training, I just think your attitude about it sucks.

I can honestly say I give them equal respect. See, I work with firefighters, EMS professionals, LE personnel, physicians every day...we also have cleaning people that come here - and they have them in the hospitals we frequent. Guess what, each and every one of them deserves our respect for what they do.

If you can't give them that, then I'm sorry for you.

: deffo, it appers its the people who do not actually work with these groups hold them in higher or lower regard If you actually work with them and are a decent human being you judge by the person not the profession and i mean this in the respect and esteem you have for them

I really don't see it that way. I've "known" (on the internet) Dan and Luke for quite some time. That is not what they are about at all. They may speak their mind in a thread debating different types of training, but otherwise I don't see them saying anyone is an idiot for not training like them. This thread is about our opinions and reasons for those on the topic of assisted verse raw lifting.

I'd say unless someone totally agrees with us on a topic we will usually feel their additude sucks. When a bunch of people start express strong opinions that is bound to happen.

I drink afew once/twice on the weekend, but I really can't stand drunks, but alcochol doesn't make one become a "super-strength god" from what the experts say, it lowers test levels (which I may believe, but only the day after, the next day, the levels are right again, eithier that or it's just the dehydration) (but I don't want to turn this into a alcohol debate)
You drink a few hence you are a social drugtaker. I personally dont buy into soical justification that its ok because it is legal. If you were living in countires in the east you would be severely punished for drinking alcohol where cannabis is perfectly ok.
Alcohol lowers test levels causing a compensatory increase in lh with the reduction of inhibitions yhis can lead to the macho image people seem to get from it which leads to violence unsafe sex and other situations that people would normally not do.
Damage to liver from evven small amounts of alcohol as well as brain cell death.
I see The US has really cracked down on steroid use how about the one of the biggest problems where the recreational of a few drinks at the weekend causes the economy hundreds of millions every year due to people ining into work sick

Welch, I'm talking about the PROFESSION not the individual!!! If you want to act like you have just as much respect for a prostitute as you do a prosecutor, then find another tree to hug on, 'cause I ain't buying it! I have no idea why I'm even exchanging dialog with you... by your own admission, and disclaimer for every post you make, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!

I'm with you here maxgain, hey I don't care much for these government desions and I'm all for someone rebeling, there might be something deeper in the steriod issue we all don't know, I havn't seen much good from it from strength athletes from whom I know have dubbled.......again it dishonors the game............as far as alcohol and everything else, we seem to live in a society where people are just not responsible anymore, all I can do about that? is tell them that.

Hes not the only one! seriously though you are judging the individaula by judging their profession whether you realise it or not.
All jobs need to catered for it is what makes society work and this needs to be recognised. You have quite the snobbish attitude. Would you look down/feel superior to your girlfriend/wife if she was a cleaner or worked in a canteen etc.

Don't forget, you know very little about me, what jobs I've worked, or who I've worked with. I'm not judging any person, or making assumptions like yourself, I'm simply saying that I hold some professions in a higher regard than others, and I'm comparing that to the way I view sport. Has nothing to do with the individual or my own self view.

My wife is a nurse, a wonderful human being to boot. I have all the respect in the world for the position she holds, it's a profession far more noble and noteworthy than my own. That doesn't make me less of a human being, but perhaps the fact that I would rather be here than in a hospital taking care of sick people does.

If you think I have something against janitors or manual labor, you're wrong. I've done both, and still do. This winter I'll be working in a butcher shop (yet again) cutting up deer; cleaning blood, guts and feces up off the floor. And at the end of the day, as I'm cleaning off my work boats, I'll still have all the respect in the world for the men & women in uniform allowing me the freedom to perform my job safely and securely.

Back to the topic at hand; at the end of the day, after all your babble, I'll still have more respect for a 500lb raw deadlift than one done with a suit, straps and wraps.

Despite the fact that I think you've been less-than-courteous in many of your statements, I totally agree with this one, but I think very few would disagree.

Obviously its a better lift as the equipment exists still doesnt make using the equipment wrong.
Oh yeah think you made a typo you are the one babbling.

thing is that Dan and I don't even train alike really, we shoot for same goals, and all, I think Dan was much more naturally gifted at strength than me, I did many things differantly than Dan, and believe me guys, Dan was questioning me just like he does here, I know I had him shaking his head at some things, yet he came back to me to say he realized why and how that worked for me..........I still do things he don't like, like that supportting the yoke overhead, the differance is I KNOW why I'm doing it, it's not like I saw the "safe lift" on WSM and got my wrist wraps, and belt and just started "killing that ****" I actually did that lift before it even came out on WSM.

And Dan does SOME things that I don't nessecarly want any part of or approve much in his training eithier.

At least we're not having the "bodybuilders suck, powerlifters are cool, but strongmen are gods - but don't call us strongmen 'cuz you suck and don't understand us" discussion again.

Once again, all of you please understand, bow at the alter of Luke or the alter of Dan or you will be wrong forever.

I still say, all workouts are good, they are making us better, they all have value and these guys who give the attitude that they are all superior because they do it a certain way are somehow superior are just plain wrong.

If something is wrong for you, just don't do it. But don't disrespect the one who does it differently. However, as usual in these threads - we're going in circles again and again and again and again...
