They are a popular accessory exercise among powerlifters (can't speak for other athletes). Louie Simmons & the guys at Westside use them very frequently and claim them to be one of the best accessory exercises for improving your squat and deadlift.

I've done them but never on and actual Reverse Hyper machine. They are great for lower back/hamstrings/glutes.

I don't know about reverse hypers, but Dr. Squat (Dr. Fredrick Hatfield) used to do standard hyperextentions with 400-lbs of extra weight!

The reverse hypers also help keep your lower back and spine healthy by stretching it out. They're good for rehab.

It's not surprising most people don't know what this exercise is as most gyms don't have this equipment.

We have two at my gym. They are awsome. And if you can use 400 on this, then you are a machine. I struggle using 50 lbs with good form.

They are awsome for squat/deadlift as has already been said.

Yeah 400lbs on a hyper is not nearly the same as 400 on a reverse hyper...
