shoulder pressing

is there any carryover from shoulder pressing to bench pressing? Or is it just for shoulder development like a bodybuilder would do (unless you want to be strong overhead pressing)

Is there anything that a shoulder press can do for you that front raises, side laterals, and face pulls cant do for you? Can you develop nice, and proportioned shoulders from doing just the bench and its assistance movements along with the dumbbell lateral raises you can do for the shoulders?

I ask because I have dropped shoulder pressing from my routine currently and wonder if I am missing anything. I am doing side laterals, and pulldowns to chin currently.

Interestingly enough, I have noticed that my bench has gone up the most ever in the past month that I have eliminated shoulder pressing....

I think it definately has it's place, dumbells and barbells. If you are a competative powerlifter solely interested in upping your bench it may not be the best use of your time.

I've always thought muscle used/built is a function of weight x distance (assuming rep range is constant) therefore shoulder pressing builds alot more than lat raises.

I think it does carry over. It works your delts hard, and the front/rear are used in the bench press alot.
