I had planned on setting the Illinois state record for the police and fire class, on the bench press. Up until last month it was 385 lbs, for my weightclass. Unfortunately for me, some animal decided to raise the bar to 525 lbs, so I guess that is out. However, the Indiana record is 440, so I am putting that in my sights for the mmet at the state fair in August. No point to this thread really, just sharing a goal!

Good luck in reaching your goal. I actually have 440 to beat for the Provincial record where I live, hopefully I can do it June. Have you ever competed at the Can Am police and fire games?

No I haven't competed in the police and fire games. If we are talking about the same ones, I think they are in Australia this year. If these are not the ones you are talking about, please give me info on them, I love to compete whenever possible.
I have been looking into Police and Fire games a little the ones that are in Austrailia are the World Police and fire games. The world police games have a bench only event and a push pull event and it is all raw lifting. The Can Am police and fire games take place every 2 years and I think it alternates being held in Canada and the U.S. It seems like that follow rules that are close to IPF rules and allow single ply equipment. The Can Am games are in 2008 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and are only a 3 hour drive away from me so hopefully I can stay healthy and can make it out there.

That sounds pretty interesting. Got a website or a link?
Are there any qualification requirements or is it an open meet?

I don't have all the info yet but it looks like it has age classes and I don't think there are any qualifying totals. I think you have to be employed as a police officer, firefighter, volunteer firefighter, Correctional Officer, etc. They have a bench only and 3 lift comp.
