talk to me about tires, ppl!
okay, so i got this whacking big tractor tire, weighs about 200, maybe 250 (the guy who gave it to me isn't sure). i'm supposed to flip it twice a week for time or distance.
anyone have any pointers on doing this without ending up nothing more than feet sticking out from beneath? any specific technique or just get the thing up and over as best i can?

You mentioned before that the tread is worn off. Get a power drill and a 25mm/1" hole saw and cut a series of holes around the perimeter and centered in the middle of the tire. Thread a heavy rope in and out through the holes, leaving it a bit slack and tie off good knots on the inside of the tire. Now you have a series of rope handles around the perimeter of the tire that you can grab on to that won't get damaged from the tire rolling over them. It might prevent that scenario you describe above. As for the movement, I's start with a deadlift type move, raise to chest level, switch grip, then go to an overhead press and push it over.

What I do is start with a deadlift movement, as it starts to go up and get above my knees I kick into it with my thigh and ride that momentum to switch my grip, as it starts to get to perpendicular to the ground I switch around to the other side and either a) watch it fall or b) catch it, tap it to the ground, and flip it back over... (obviously b is pointless for distance)

...um... b) sounds a little advanced.... <mental image of tire bouncing on my head knocking me into the ground like a nail>
i thought of the handles thing, but no - working with the worn tread will improve my grip.
that's the theory.

take a wide grip, get your shoulders into it, lift and drive your legs into it.
Thats how I did it with my 500lb baby tire, but now I got the 700lb perfect tread tire and I gotta use a differant tech.

if you got a tire thats bald, heres how to grip it, there should still be gaps inbetween where the tread used to be at the bottom of the tire, you gotta slip your hands inbetween those gaps, and don't put your palms facing up (like a barbell curl) you want your arms facing the way you would do a hammer curl, that way you can fit your hands in the gaps.
just be very careful when using the arms on this exercise, if you try to curl the tire using too much arms the bicep could tweak, make sure the tire is always dry when flipping it, again the grip could slip and tweak the biceps, use as much hips, leg, drive as you can.
I've never injured myself or even had a minor injury from flipping tires yet.

Man I gotta train with you one day! I think tire flipping sounds totally fun. I don't know if my heart could take it, but it sounds like fun anyway! lol

one day well have to meet-up, do you guys go to the "arnold" My partner always goes, so I may show-up this year.
If you live near the city, it shouldn't be hard to find a yard with those tires, they have to pay to have them hauled away, so they'll just give them away, anyone would be doing them a favor taking one.
You should talk to Clay about picking some up for his gym, tell him that it's good to change the GGP from sled drags all the time to something differant, keeps it interesting, ya know, and it's great GGP work, I don't know about your heart thing though sounds like it could act-up, unless as you get stronger and more endurance conditioned it goes away, but I ain't the guy to tell you that one.
