Couldn't agree more. Those are the very same reasons I got into it.

Dan,

For the longest time, I would not do strongman type of stuff for a couple reasons, but mainly the reason was becasue of the amount of cardiovascular demand it requires. For the last 3 to 4 years now, I have had trouble with my heart as you know.

Well, I had a 48 hour monitor done last October to find out if the skipped beats I was having were dangerous or not. I had to come off my beta blocker to take that. Beta blockers decondition your heart even more because they cause your heart to beat slower, even during exercise. So, having come off, I have felt alot better (even notice skipped beats less than when i was on it) and have managed to stay off the meds completely, and never want to go back on. My cardiovascular conditioning is vastly improved, to the point now that performing the routines I used to do no longer raise my heart rate very much or even get me breathing much. So since my conditioning has improved, my RHR has decreased, and I've been so much more comfortable.

This has allowed me to perform alot more intense cardiovascular training without any worries about skipped beats or without the skipped beats making me feel terrible (which is what used to happen alot) since now I can't feel them anymore.

So, now that my conditioning is much better, I feel so much better, have much more energy during the day and sleep like a rock, just feel so much more healthy. And that is probably the main reason for my drive to perform more intense lifting. I hate squatting, never liked it, probably never will like it, but what it does for me condition-wise is unbelievable, and as soon as my groin heals up fully, I plan to use squatting to continue to improve my conditioning and get as strong raw as possible.

I wish i could do those high rep squats now but I'm seriously worried about injuring the groin. Everytime i get to any heavy weight, the next morning it is tender, so i'm trying to slowly increase the weight each week in an attempt to slowly get the groin used to it again. Heavy pulling and heavy squatting are the culprits and I'm having to be very careful and patient to get recovered.

Just want to post in here since we are talking high reps, that I did 21 reps deadlifts tonight, unbroken, no gloves, overhand grip, with 95# (touch and go) as part of my Crossfit WOD.

It was easier than squats, but stole my wind for everything that came after.

nice work brat! the high rep deadlifts tend to get me sweating more then a 1 mile run!

I still have not tried the high rep squat (I've done 20+ with the bar, during warm-ups, but not pushing myself like i should be) I need to get into this challenge ASAP!

I don't know if this counts, but I just did 185 x 17 A2G Squats. I'll get the 20 next week.

It's a pretty insane feeling though. They were going slow as hell after rep 12 and I was breathing like crazy. Once I got to 17, I couldn't get my legs to stop shaking and I couldn't stabilize myself. I think I just need a little more focus for the next attempt though.

First 20+ rep squats; now deads?

The world has gone crazy. Admiring the dedication though.:

yesterday i did 15 at 110lbs and i could not have gone on to do the 20 if i had wanted to.. just shows me that doing the high rep set at higher than my own BW is something for the future, not for now...

Next time I will try 100x20

OK, so I gave this a shot last night. It killed me.
4x15x 40kg/88lbs, 50kg/110lbs, 60kg/132lbs, 60kg/132lbs.

I was going as low as I could and yeah it ruined me. I was panting and nearly crashed out a couple of times. Fun though

Good job minime. I would suggest keep chipping away adding another rep at 115 unless you want to shoot for a 40 rep set at 100.

LOL - I've still got another month to soften the callouses. Sugar, glycerine and lemon juice manicures are being planned! Actually its certain types of bar knurling that really rip the skin. The style gloves I was using were interfering not helping with the olympic lifts so I set them aside knowing I had some time to work on healing. Getting messy with chalk has been very helpful.

Nice that you got on board to Jmike. Good work!
