Make no mistake, there are scores of super strong guys out there in the basements, garages and hard-core gyms that just have no desire to compete. There are guys out there that don't even care enough to train! and could still out pull us both. Some people just don't care about it like that, don't think they're all just scared.

I'm not scared, just small and weak.

The triathalong I'm going to do next month - that scares me. A 1 mile long section of water over 100' deep. But you know what? I'm gonna compete. Probably lose, but going to do it just for the personal satisfaction of doing it. After this is over, I just may find a PL comp to train for...probably lose, but hey - it would be satisfying just to prepare for and meet a goal of doing it.

I think the notions of being small and weak is what Firehawk was referring to but if the desire is there, you shouldn't let that hold you back. The personal satisfaction will be the same, and you're guaranteed to meet some good folks. The camaraderie in a competitive environment has to be experienced to be understood, and something about being around people stronger than yourself seems to make you stronger as well.

In my first strongman comp I didn't really "beat" anyone. Of the 6 people in my weight class I only placed ahead of 2 of them, one of which I was training, the other who didn't look like he had any training. I didn't finish a single event but I gave 110% and that 4th place trophy I will have forever, were as the other 1st and 2nd place trophies I have almost found their way to the garbage last weekend... I think I'll hold onto them a bit longer though.

Yeah you have to experience a meet. I could tell you how it is all day long but until you go through it and try it out, you'll never really know what it's like. I have some peeps in NC that I'm sure would handle you at the meet if you wanted to. NC is a hotbed for powerlifting. You might have to drive a couple hours but so what. I hvae driven 2 hours to both of the ones i competed in. It ain't no thang...

And the bar always feels lighter at a meet.

This morning, new PR in Clean and Jerk: 195 x 1 (up from 185 on 3/24/06). I think I had more in the tank, but I did not want to overdo it.

This past Saturday (4/22/06), just missed 335 x 1 on flat bench (315 x 1 went up easy moments before).

Bodyweight:190 (up from 189).

Set a new PR during my HST cycle, squatted 300x5. I also deadlifted 360x5, and benched 260x5, all of which I believe are PRs.

I started a 20 rep squat routine again (first time in 3 years or so). Last Wednesday I got 225 for 25, high bar narrow stance full squats.

Yesterday I got 235 for 30. Up 10lbs and 5 reps. :
