Weighted pullups

After a long time out, I've resumed pullup training. Pullups were the stable of my training for about 3 years when I trained using bodyweight-only exercises. I built one heck of a back doing them.

Here's some recent stuff:

Weighted standard grip pullup, weighted standard grip chinup, and squat/overhead press combo

http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=5484&CID=268711

The squat/behind-the-neck overhead press combo is more of a strength endurance/anaerobic challenge than the 1RM tests of weighted pullups and weighted chinups.

Here’s a recent weighted standard grip pullup with 80 lbs. added (I'm within 2.5 lbs. of my PR from a couple years ago):

Hopefully I'll be posting some long-overdue PRs soon.

To my surprise, the other day I did a rope climb hands-only. I'm adding that to my training mix too.

It's all good, we just got to show up and do it!

like the videos. That ATG squat looks like it hurts when it bounces back against your neck/back.

Ahhhh weighted pullups. I'm missing those. Settling for lat pulldowns for now...working my way back to it though.

Great work as usual Mr. P.

My shoulder is on the mend so pressing work is out of the question this week. Here's the latest today - standard grip pullups BW+45 lbs. added for 7 reps:

Cool Videos! How much do you weigh? Being able to do pull ups with that much added weight is impressive. I will have to give these a try...

Lately I've averaged about 180 lbs. but I was at 178 lbs. when I did the 45 lbs. for 7 reps. Be careful if you haven't done weighted pullups lately as you are vulnerable for elbow tendonitis if you have too much newbie zeal.

Nice form on the pull ups. No kipping. I've been doing wide grip pulls since i started back (6 months) and i have to say i hated them. I could only do about 8 real pull ups fresh and now i bang out a good 15 or so. My only issue is my gym doesn't have a dip belt. I sell fitness equipment so I'm trying to get them to buy a couple since they're pretty important. I'm starting a heavy weight/low rep scheme soon so I may have to suck it up and get my own.

Love the weighted pull ups!! Another great option for those that are still working on strength is to go for weighted body rows. If you have access to a weight vest, throw that on and perform your body rows with the bar about hip height. This is a great supplement to pull ups or as a stepping stone.

Thanks! I'm trying and have to remind myself to not compare myself to others because there are some beasts out there doing stuff that I'll never be able to do.
