At 5' 9.5" & 240lbs. I am indexing a 34.9 I too, am morbidly obese! lol

This is why I think that BMI charting is outdated and worthless.

5'10" at an estimated 165 lbs (last time I was on a scale)

23.7 BMI. I better watch it, I'm almost overweight!

Any formula that only considers height and weight can't be too meaningful. To put much (if any) 'weight' (pun inteneded) to the results is pretty silly.

at 5-11, 177 I'm 24.7 -- yep, I'm getting close to being 'fat' too.

BMI is a notoriously poor indicator of health when judging athletes and lifters, though.

Was the BMI intended to compare to how much "WEIGHT" you carry around? I mean, even if someone's 300 lbs and solid muscle, that's alot of weight to be carrying around for your heart. Maybe they meant it in that sense.

Yeah - it's an oversimplified test, at best, since it only measuers height-to-weight. If you are ronnie coleman, for example, your BMI is probably in the high 30s, which would make him obese. We know that most of his weight is muscle, though, so BMI as an indicator of his health is laughable.

In a related question. I was going to ask my Dr. but forgot; You have two 300lb. individuals, one is 10% bodyfat and the other is say 45%. Which one of these individuals is placing more stress on his heart? The weight is the same but bodyfat is most obviously the major difference. Does the heart care whether it's fat or muscle? All things being equal, cardio health and endurance etc., would they both be at risk later in life?

Oh god, I better watch my girlish figure! At 5-6 and 140 I'm dangerously close to being overweight (24).

This is pretty damn stupid. I guess its a decent indicator for people who dont workout. It doesnt take into acount body fat percentage, or the fact that muscle weights more then fat.

Weird question, Lift. I have to assume the person with the lower BF is in a much better position since he/she likely has to eat well and do some form of exercise to get to that point.

Yeah. BMI is completely bogus. Pretty much always has been. I mean when Arnie won Mr. Universe, he was clinically obese. LOL!
