Working on chest for ME Bench...

Usually on my bench press, I seem to get stuck a few inches off my chest rather than half-way up or close to lock out. What exercise could I do for ME Bench day to train that part of my bench press to get it stronger?

I would think getting in a squat rack with pins and doing some heavy sets with the bar coming about 4 inches off your chest and having someone give you a couple assisted reps...

This former strength training coach for some pro and olympic teams i met told me when your bench is getting stuck at the low spot hammer curls actually will help you with those first few inches by building the muscle on your forearm and bicep around the elbow. :

GymRat - I'll have to try that low rack press out. That should fit really well on my Max Effort days for Bench... as far as the assisted reps go, I don't know how well I could fit that into my Westside routine.

LifterMike - I'll throw some hammer curls into one of my days and see how that works out for me.

Thanks guys :

Try putting the bar on the low pins here and start from there. It makes you explode through. I have seen this help many. Also do a seach on my tips.

Also 1 or 2 board presses may help.

Board Pressing, speed work and strong lats.

The latter two being the primary way to get the bar off your chest. Board pressing will simply train through sticking points off the chest.

Also, if the bar pins to your chest, the bar is too heavy.
