bonjour

Hi everyone,
My name is Becky and I have just joined. I do spinning 4x a week and cycle everywhere. I do a full body barbell class twice a week and have just started working with a trainer again.
I am a novice and have lots of questions. I was referred to this site by a friend and thought I'd give it a go.
A big thing for me right now is diet and nutrition...its all so overwhelming.

Ladies train just like the men but with different amount of weight. There is a female section. Besides there are many ladies here but you can't always tell by user names.

Bodies are bodies, Becky. There's no difference between your female bones/muscles/tendons/ligaments/etc and those that are in my male body. The optimal way to work & feed those various tissues for health shouldn't vary based on gender.

One way in which the opposing genders are different (beyond the obvious ...) is in terms of homone release.

Oh yeah ... welcome to DiscussFitness.com.

Thanks everyone!
I guess I was thinking more in terms of the diet and nutrition but maybe that's the same too? Portion sizes might vary though right? (I have a lot to learn).

Yep, in general the diet is the same. You will find that some people can eat all kind of things and not gain an ounce and other smell it an gain weight. (exaggeration). My point is what I do may not work for you but you can start somewhere and experiment until you figure out what works for your body. That goes for diet and exercise.

The food that you eat, regardless of your gender, should be enough to support your daily activity level. If you train hard, then you must eat more than if you don't. If you chase after three kids all day long, then you must eat more than if you had no children and watched TV all day. Again, this doesn't matter whether you're a man or a woman.

Exactly what is appropriate for you is a matter of experimentation over time. The more attention you give to exactly how your body reacts to food intake (and exercise/activity), the sooner you'll be able to zero in on what your specific body needs.
