Hey Newcomers needs advice!

Hey

I recently have lost over 30 pounds (of mostly fat ) since about december 2005. I am 5 feet tall and had reached a plateau at about (start weight 151) 121/122lbs, so I changed my eating because i had sent my body into starvation mode by only eat 800-900 calories a day for a couple of weeks. So i started eating 6 times a day at 1200 calories and i lost like two pounds of fat in a month and my weight was still 121 but i didnt care. Well I continued eating the same but I also started working out longer at higher intensity on the ellitical so im burning like 600 calories an hour + strength training ( sometimes I would even run in the evenings too) and still was eating between 1200 and 1300 cals. Well i weighed in again after another month and I only lost 3 lbs of water, and no fat like i wanted. Am I not eating enough for my workout?is my body in starvation mode again? I read on a site that i could eat 1600cals a day and lose weight, but this seems weird cuz i thought u had to keep eating the same amount after you reached ur goal cuz ur BMR dropped, but maybe my exercise level is higher than it was when I first began losing weight? HELP please!

There is not enough detail about how long you are working out, how intense, what you are eating and when, and your body stats, to give you feedback.

IMHO, the starvation therory is highly over used. I do know that if you don't eat enough you will not see changes. You should concentrate on gaining muscles that will help keep your metabolism high and help burn fat.

I workout on the ellitical trainer 1 hour on 8 or 9 intensity , i think 12 is the highest. I eat fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, no sugary beverages, lean meats.... i splurge at least once or twice a week but i think i should be at this stage in the weight loss. I do a little strength training but not alot.

You can't build muscles without more strength or resistance training. All the cardio in the world will not build mass needed to look "toned" and fit. You must incorporate some form of resistance training. Adding that muscle is what boosts the metabolism and makes it easier to lose fat too.

Drop all but 2 days of cardio. Add in 3-4 days of resistance training. Tax the muscles. Eat properly and you should reach your goals.

Wrong thinking there. The muscle will show and help burn that fat away.

And you don't have to be rude when asking for advice - duh!

Like LadyC said, buidling quality muscle turns your body into a fat burning machine. What is your current strength training routine like? You should be doing lots of compound exercises.

i think your workouts should be intense if you wanna burn the fat away. And like LadyC said, if you want to burn the fat you gotta build the muscle because muscles burn fat. And if the muscles burn fat, then your muscles will show more and your problem will be solved. Because...obviously what you're doing now, is it working for ya?

You need to work your whole body to acheive your goal and keep the intensity up:
