Lurker checking in

Hello all. I've been a serious lurker here, so I thought I would finally post up. About a year ago, I was going to the gym regularly and trying to take care of myself. Then, my wife and I bought a house (fixer-upper) so that took away my free time for awhile on the nights and weekends and we ate dinner out a lot due to the renovations and things, and now I need to get back into the fitness routine. My wife is now pregnant with a little girl, so I want to get back in shape so I can be in our daughter's life as long as possible (too many things outside of our control to take us away from the people we love. Why succumb to something you can totally control), and also to set a good example for her. Too many kids these days sit inside on the computer and are too heavy.

Look forward to hanging out here, soaking up the knowledge, and getting back into a shape that isn't round.

and thanks for the introduction.

Let's get right down to business - talk is cheap, if you are serious about regaining your fitness and you'd like our help, set some more specific fitness and health goals that are measurable and post them here, then start your own training journal in the Online Journal forum as many of us have done. You'll get great support from all of us as we grow and keep fit together.

Have a great day!

1 post and I've already got sound advice.

To start with, I would like to get my weight back down to the 200 pound area by the end of the year. Eventually, I would like to get down to around 180-185. I would like to have as much lean mass as possible, but am not really going for the bodybuilding, 22 inch biceps type look. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's just not my style. I've always been kind of wiry.

Also, as far as fitness goals, I just need to get my activity levels up. I work in the loan business, so I do a lot of sitting, and writing/typing/signing my name. There's a few of us who get together in the morning and afternoon and take a break and go for a walk. It's about 3/4 mile we walk. We walk it twice a day so there's 1.5 miles walked right there. I can't exert myself too much though. You get hot awful quick with slacks, dress shirts, and ties holding all your body heat in. I'd like to be able to actually run/jog a mile non-stop, in under 10 minutes. Back when I was working out 4 times a week, I broke the 8 minute mile mark, but I probably couldn't go a full mile without stopping.
