Are there any new DF plans for 2010?
This is basically a question to the powers that be at DF.
I was really happy to see the enthusiasm with which Cursor returned to DF with his efforts to restore a vibrant posting community here.
As a previous "resident" regular here and former mod, I know what the challenges were and the satisfaction that can be had. Of course there was no Facebook or Twitter or Blog popularity then and MySpace was sort of new. They are definately fractionalizing the online experince.
I'd love to have DF as a place to return to on a regular basis but everytime I get here it is plastered with spam posts. I mean the old fashioned kind that most forums have manged to keep under control without having to have their volunteer moderators do it manually. I often just move on to my other Web places when I see the list of spammers and their posts under "todays posts/new posts". I don't even bother wasting time logging in. It's been a problem for a long time here.
So if you guys are making plans to do some serious house-cleaning I'm pretty sure we "old guys" can bring back some traffic. I for one would like to see a specialty discussion forum for lifters over 38 years old. I am finding that there are few places to go and post without feeling and being treated like "a worn out engine" whose useful years have waned rather than "a vintage classic" who know how to respond efficiently to current training modalities given their experince in the golden years of sport training of their generation. Warning, how you name it will be key to getting participation. Terms like "grannies, old-farts, grey-power, senior, geriatric, mature, wrinkles and old " can be huge turnoffs for participation. Masters is also get overused and often does not invite the right mix of participation.
Life is changing for us. We've been been there and can offer advice across the board while still needing to ask new stuff from our peers. Just a suggestion for you.
Anyway, thanks for letting me air those thoughts. Spam is definately the no.1 thing keeping me away these days, especially now that I've seen some participation from the old guard. The mods can't be expected to handle the volume of crap that comes down.
Please respond or rebutt...owners... members... mods...

Linda you are as aware of the overwhelming nature of the spam problem as the rest of us. We are doing all we can with it. None of us can be online all of the time. When a better way is found it will surely be utilized.
I think the lifters over 38 forum is a very good idea, thanks. I've actually thought of doing one for members over 35. If more folks would rather it be 38, or 40... we can do it either way. In fact, specific discussions for all types of training as we mature would likely be useful for many of us.
I've seen one forum frequented by NPC competitors and IFBB hopefuls (no pro cards there YET though) which has a "bodybuilders over 35" section that deals with many of the "men's health" issues that effect muscle gains. I think something like this, but not just male specific or bodybuilding specific would be wonderful to have here. We'll get that done asap.
Other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If this forum isn't set up like the kind of place you'd want to visit then why would you come here ya know? Same goes for everyone, tell us what you'd like to see and we'll see what we can do to make it work.

Hi V Hi Linda, As a new mod i can tell you the spam is a problem but we do all we can to keep it clean Linda.
As V said "we cant be online all the time" I myself come on 3 times a day to check new post for spam and clean up.
Then when i sleep in (uk) the other side of the world mods clean up.
So we do as much as we can.
Your Idea on over 35s forum is very good idea
I know the site has slowed, but by sitting on the side line only makes it worse, This is why i just keep on in there, Never give up just like doing that last Rep

I love the idea of the over 35, over 38 or over 40 or whatever the membership would like to make it forum.
I'd like to hear from some members. What do you guys think of this idea?

Thanks for the forum! Hopefully it will see some action. Maybe our old friend Pierini may drop in again and post there.
Just to be clear, I know that the moderators and admins have not been slack at all about the spam. Bringing it up was mostly to question why a technical update can't be made to fix the problem. I go on lots of PHP boards and none seem to be as open to attack as this one.
Thank you for being moderators!

I've had the same question. Fixing that would likely be something for the owners or owners representatives to do. However, although I'm not really a computer person anymore. As a former computer engineer and programmer (hated it and went on to other things...wasted degree eh?) I can probably make it work if i can find a v-bulletin crack or fix for this problem. Asking questions and trying to learn the answers now.

You are very welcome. This is actually ALL of our forum so when the members want something they should get it. If the interest is there we will do what we can.
And yes, I hope so too.

New posts has been working for me. Did you double check and make sure you're logged in? Other than that, I'm not sure.
