BOBY of the month

hi i think you should start a body of the month competition. Like make a short list of 5 people and then get DF users so vote on whos made the best progress. The winner can get a t-shirt or something.

i would just like to give my backing to the rankings idea

I'd recommend NOT having rep that everyone can give, or you would just have useless posts/rep parties where everyone gives everyone reputation (like it's something really important?), so the moderator -> user -> other user format would be fine.

Suggestion: Jump buttons.

Reason: Go quickly from top to bottom and from bottom to top (quicker than mouse scrolling or scroll bar and easy to put in).

Suggestion: Live Chat

Reason: To discuss something live with someone when offering/asking advice so as not to have dozens of journal entries on the same topic - sometimes more intenive descriptions are the way to go - and they are best done live.

BTW - if the site admn is interested, I have a live chat link I can send (same one I sent cursor). Or it can even just be installed in a sticky thread in general chat. Again easy to do, I have the code and can send it, or will be happy to post it in a thread if the admin approves.

Other than that, I think the forum is great just the way it is.

Oh, and for the people worried about moderating and censorship - I love freedom of speech, but I have to say that sometimes you have to moderate - it just can't be avoided. On the forums that I moderate, two are HEAVILY watched because of children (WAY STRICTER THAN THIS ONE - which is pretty lightly moderated). The other is pretty much anything goes ADULTS ONLY - and they all seem to work out well for their intended purpose. So don't feel too bad, this forum is pretty free. Notice that there is no need to kiss the moderator's collective a$$es like on many forums - wanna argue with them, have at it. They don't seem to mind. They only take action when they have to.
