Since my hopes for a forum without all the inflammatory rhetoric appears to be a minority viewpoint, I think I'll just shut up and stick to the fitness forums.

Hey Gearloose ... that's pretty much what I do (at least that's my general rule). Hell, I just put everybody on my Ignore List, then have conversations with myself. :

I have 2 sometimes 3 people on my ignore list. So far it's very pleasant.

Or just roll up your sleeves and jump right in there. You'll not hurt my feelings.

Or just stick to the more lighthearted stuff when you visit general chat. I try to bring some cute stuff or funny stuff over when I find it. Plenty of others do too.

So that's why you don't reply to any of my comments.

Here's my few bobs worth.

I rekon General Chat is pretty well fair game (within the fairly broad rules clearly spelled out in the forum guidelines) if you don't like heated (and at times completely innane ) debate I guess avoiding it is a good idea.

That said though when the dross (gad I love that word ) someone posts in General starts to spill into the other 'real' forums I think action needs to be taken.

Like my man Welch said nobody taken the ****e in General too seriously (referenced by the harmony/helpfulness in the other forums) it's when people let the debates get out of hand and let the feelings stirred affect the quality of the information being exchanged throughout the rest of the site that we need to get a bit proactive in removing their input (but the 'heat' of general very rarely leaves general in my limited experience).

However, at the risk of being .... obvious , I am all for banning users with consistently pointless/**** stirring posts at the absence of any constructive input to the rest of our community.

that's what I rekon.

Sorry you just didn't make it. Please don't try harder. Besides I didn't know you were talking to me. Neither of the people on the list have contributed anything fitness-wise to the site. I just got tired of sifting through their nonsense to get to the other unread posts.

It's called being adult and respecting others right to say their piece - even if we don't agree with it.

Disagreeing and arguing aren't the same as flames.

Flaming is an unwarranted personal attack. For example if you say so and so is a stupid SOB, that might be a flame.
I agree with Welch.

Ouuuccchhh that stings.

Has everyone forgot that you can use pms by the way?

Although i have no one on my ignore list(i simply cant see how you can get that upset online) if I had any power on the board there would definetely be some troll-zapping going on. If not banning, public ridiculing would be my form of castigation.

Then again, that's why this board is so hard to moderate. Because it's designed to appeal towards a broad group of audience, because it has an abnormal amount of otherwise rational people who cannot take insults, because it has idiots who know nothing about fitness and spend their time lounging in General Chat, this forum has to play prisoner to in many cases unneeded censoring.

Bronco thanx.
Yes I take a step back when a 9/11 type thread is opened. I don't think it's fair that I clean that theard up. I do pass it on to other Mods.

When I saw what was going on in that thread it tore me up and made me furious.

I didn't jump in cause I couldnt see what zool was saying (cause of the ignore) and I also have a bad habit of going on and on and maybe making things worse. (actually I've been refraining from many threads)

You know that many of us on here have a great deal of respect and appreciation for you.

To state it simple and civil, what he did was not very nice...and he's been doing it alot. People are short with him for a reason.

I haven't read the 911 thread nor the guns thread nor the one about I saw the shot (or whatever).

My curiosity has more common sense than that after reading the title and looking at who the OP was and which forum it was posted in.

Well Brat I think you have the right idea, but it's easier for some.

No one that I loved was killed in 9/11. Sure the tragedy moves me/us, but if either of us had lost a beloved brother and if our families were totally hurt by that incident

Well....

It goes past the line of decency and being able to just ignore threads. It becomes very personal whenever one comes up.

I'm all for debates and discussions

This kind of saddens me because I do advocate free speech and one's ability to ignore it :-( but when the vicious intent is to just hurt people and nothing more, than what's the use. I can't ignore it if it affects me or someone I care about.

Perhaps you can, and well than more power to you.

If there is no genuine purpose behind the expression other than to cause harm then it has no use at all.

The moderators have had to play mommy and daddy too much already on this board.

Zool or any of the others are no strangers, they most probably are past irritants that are wearing another hat

It’s unfortunate but I think it's our reality. And the proper way is like yours and now gears, and somewhat mine. Just participate at a minimum and try no to get caught in the flying feces.
