Ohio?
I'm so glad I own guns.
Remember, too,....you go where the work is, where your family is, and where both need and want can match to make your living productive, family-oriented, worth while,....and have a chance at a future in your chosen career.
There are jobs that thrive in Ohio that would not work here, and likewise.
Too many factors.
And not everyone who lives "on the coast" is living in a beach house coastal resort town. Far from it.

Sure. Tornado Alley struck me as a pretty viable option. Somewhere along the San Andreas Fault. Maybe somewhere along the preserved wetlands where they protect alligator eggs.
Remember, I've lived on Maui, I simultaneously lived in Seattle and Boston (because of my job, it required I had two homes because I'd spend 6 months in one place, 6 months in the other), I briefly lived in Florida,....
........<the list extends>....
But these may not be fair assessments because I was not there long enough to make a full transition.
I love New England, I adore it and everything about it. Leaving it would feel impossible, yet as I previously posted, I may be finding myself in Floriday (in an area adjacent to where my Mum lives,....close,....but not too close).
I'm also a water baby (not to sound corny or flakey) but I truly am, and cannot imagine being too far from the ocean (it would pain me). I'd rather find ways to elevate my employment opportunities and income (given the choice) than relocate to an area that I have no desire to make my home in.

I hear you on that! Lake erie isnt the ocean, but its 5 minutes away from the western basin, I absolutely enjoy being at the preserve metro parks, like maumee bay, or port clinton, or CEDAR POINT!... hell theres even luna pier up in michigan and st. sterling park next to the coal plant.... I go to one of these places at least once a week... for prolly my whole life, and if not to the lake, then up the maumee river, which runs thru toledo... I like to go about 30 minutes past toledo into the small suburbian/rural towns, the river is beautiful there.
ok nature moment is over, ill stop

It isn't that weird. I know a lot of people who get by on less than $2,000 fairly easily. My living expenses only come out to around $900.00. They'll be dropping to about $650-$700 when my friend and I start rooming in August or September. I spend more like $1200+ a month since I can, but my actual cost of just living isn't very high.
Granted, Portland isn't a particularly expensive place to live. You might spend $1200/mo. on a decent apartment in the downtown area, and it gets as low as $500 if you don't mind going a few miles out.
