Body shaving
I don't know where to post this, so Mods, please move this if my post is in an inappropriate place.
Are there any devices, such as electric shavers, that can be used to shave the body? I am not looking for those devices that RIP the hair out from the folicle with copper wires and such, but I am trying to find something more along the lines of either battery operated shavers, or plug in shavers, but ones that are both aggressive enough for coarse hair, and gentle enough for tender areas,....
I see a lot of advertisements for shavers designed for men's faces and lady's legs, but is there ONE device, ONE unit, that can actually be this versatile to do it all?

I never really thought there was much difference between ones made for men and ones made for women. Except maybe the color. I know that's true of manual razor blades.

I saw that too (re: color) with manual razors, disposable kinds and such.
But rotary razors and electric razors, stuff like that, I think there's a difference between how beard hair is cut on a man's face, and the curves of his jaw and neck,....and the tender areas of like, the arm pits or bikini area of a woman. I know lots of women have heard from hell to high water about using our man's razor on our legs!
That's why I wondered.
Plus I saw an ad on TV the other day where they advertised ONLY for men, made no mention for women, but they sold specially designed razors for men and what types of bears they were shaving,....some were mustache trimmers, some for goatees, some for scalp hair for men who shave their head. The impression I got was: The hair is different on our legs, bikini area, arm pits, men's beards and heads,...so wouldn't that mean different razors?
Or,....one with enough different angled heads, might suffice for the whole body, male or female?

I'm pretty sure that if they can shave legs they can pretty much shave anything else? Personally I have never used electric shavers before but it seems like it could work.

This doesn't answer your question Merrida, but I just want to state for the record that I have always been a sharp razor blade, shaving cream and very hot water person. I've received electric razors over the years, gave them an honest try, then parked them and went back to the old-fashioned method.
Maybe it has something to do growing up and watching my Dad and other adult men shave. But I also believe you'll never get a closer shave than with a razor blade.

I know here and in the UK Boots the Chemists sold a mens body shaver, battery operated.

Pierini what happened with the electric razors? I wondered if they shaved but the regrowth was very quick? Do the blade razors provide a longer lasting shave? What about things like nicks and cuts and razor bumps? I was asking about the electric body razor because of trying to avoid those things and I've found with razors, that can seem to be an on again off again occurance.
I've never used an electric razor, I've always used blades (not even disposables, but full replaceable kinds of blades). It was just a thought, and I was thinking I was upgrading and saving time.
If I have the time to take a long hot shower, or a long hot bath (both which are not good for the skin) I DO find with the right shaving gel (works better for me than cream) the shave is pretty good.
Maybe I was looking for what I thought would be a quick way out, ....I'm going to blame all these Christmas commercials that are trying to hock electric razors for us ladies to buy our men. I wanted "in" on the scoop.
Out of curiosity,....ever get a shave in an old fashioned barber shop, with a straight razor, hot towel, and the kind of shaving cream that lathers up with the boar hair bristle brush?

As a total fan of Britcoms, I don't think there's one I watch that doesn't mention Boots in it, so in some bizarre way I feel almost familiar with the place!! Sometimes I have to catch myself from saying, "I'm going to the chemists," too. (Years and years and years of brain filtration).
Max, have you ever tried it? (Wondering about first hand experience).

It's not as close with electric. My legs feel nice and smooth after manual, but still a little stubbly after electric. And I have dark hair, so I don't want any stubble.

7 Philips Norelco Mens Body Groom Trim and Shave All Body Zones reviews in Accessories - Buzzillions.com
I've heard good things about that one. But really, the best I've ever found was the gillette mach 3 razor...the green one. However, women may be a little uneasy having anything that vibrates anywhere near ummm...sensitive areas.

Okay so I guess you guys answered my post. My question or concern sort of revolved more around,....just how different are the types of hair at various points around the body and would it matter.
I use the MachIII too, and have pretty good luck with it, but after what pierini said, I'm wondering if my thoughts of trying out an electric razor sort of defeats the purpose if hair grows back quicker or the shave doesn't last as long.
But, last question: pierini (you said you tried both), even if the hair grows back quicker, can you shave more often, and do you get fewer ingrowns or razor bumps with the electric type?
