lol that is funny... Sorry for my ignorance, but does the government really do that? lol if they do no wonder our currency is fading. I dont get that anyhow, how can you pay off your debt with no real value behind the money? Mind boggling.

It's actually a good question, as many people are under the impression that the US economy is backed by gold. Many years ago, this was exactly the case. But the country went off the gold standard, and it is now backed by what is affectionately refered to as "faith"--as in "faith in the US economy".

exactly, i think it was 1971 that our money stopped meaning anything. i believe that the government manipulations are the cause of the economic troubles. of course, people spending and borrowing so much is also a problem, but the government itself is hurting the people. i mean if a single person spent, borrowed, and counterfeited like the government does, i don't think anyone would trust that person with a cent.

I cant even wrap my mind around that... Like can I just start writing IOU's to people and say, have faith in me... lol??? Can I just start paying for crappy breakfast's with monopoly money? why not its not worth any less then real money? if real money is just paper and nothing behind it making it worht something, monopoly money should actually be worht more since we have to pay for the game to get the money!
I got a headache. Im gonna go get catabolic and take some excedrin

Any establishment that would accept Monopoly money as legal tender is the equivalent of that establishment having blind faith in Parker Brothers. It's quite a bit different from having faith in the Gross Domestic Product of the third most populous country in the entire world.

what about the gdp is worth having faith in?? investment is down, we aren't exporting, our consumption is down. all we can expect is that the government is gonna spend a bunch of money. i don't see why we'd have faith in the dollar when we're at the mercy of the govt's and fed's crappy decisions
