Well here is my opinon.
Guns can be a good hobbie. High powerd rifles are great if your into hunting, but when you can go and buy ak47s, mac10s, pistols, and other high rate of fire weapons there somthing wrong with that. Those types of guns are meant for killing other people, and in my opinion should not be given to an average joe. Yea they are fun to shoot and im not saying because you own a gun like that you are going to kill somone, but that is what they are made for, and civilians should not be able to buy these typs of guns.
I am from canada and i have been hunting with family, and I see nothing wrong with that. there is plenty of forest where it is safe to do so.
I am actually thinking of getting a high powerd scoped crossbow. You don't need a gun licence, and they are extreamly powerfull, no 300 magnum but powerfull none the less. last year i was at a local corn farm for an anual harvest party, and a bear was in the feild eating corn and destroying the crop all year long, long storey short the farm owner who was more than fed up pulled out his crossbow, shot the bear once, and it died within 30 seconds. I knew these things were powerfull, but to kill a 600Lbs black bear in one shot was simply astonishing. I am thinking I might get one and try some hunting of my own next summer. A deer would be nice!

I'm probably the only one around who's both a member of the ACLU and the NRA.
|
There is nothing wierd about that. They are both about freedom to live and choose in an ideal world.
And they both have some nuts. And they both drive other nuts nuts.
And if you take the combined letters, trade an R and an A for a T and an I, you can spell LUNATIC. So, who's wierd?
An intelligent, thinking person can find a reason to belong to both.

In North Carolina it is required to obtain a handgun purchase permit for crossbows.

the guy at the gun shop said i only have to be 18, and i just so happen to be that magic number.
thats strange how North Carolina has mort stricked laws concerning crossbows than the area in canada i'm from though. canadain gun laws are generally much more stricked from what I know.

Yeah, NC laws are pretty good to live with. It's a "Shall issue" state so the county Sheriff has no choice but to issue a CCW permit to anyone who qualifies. He can refuse to issue purchase permits to those without CCW permits if he feels they are of poor moral character though. But after the permit process and the paperwork for the jackbooted thugs, I mean the ATF is filled out, there is no further registration. No statewide database telling who has what and all that foolishness.
I kind of like the freedom to own what I want too. If I want a howitzer, then I think I should be able to get one. I just currently choose not to want one right now.
But, back on track. That's a nice pistol Goosneck. A friend of mine has one and it really shoots nice. Clean shots, a bit of recoil but not unmanageable with proper grip, and nice easy followups. Easy to hit all "A" zone shots with.

Thanks, I'm psyched to shoot it. I'm plenty familier with the Glock 45 cal, so I'm interested to see how they compare.

I got an XD 45 GAP for my birthday two years ago. It's a great gun, much better feel to it than a Block, IMO. I got the LE model with the 4" barrel. The only problem was the round. GAP ammo is still not being mass produced and therefore is expensive and relatively hard to find. (Though I did read in Glock Annual that the NY State Police just picked it up as well as some agency in Alabama.)
Anyway, I just recently sold it specifically because of the round. I have every intention to get another one too. This time I'm going to get the 45 ACP in the 4" compact frame. The compact model comes with two magazines, one that is flush with the handle and holds 10 rounds (my 45 GAP only held 9) and one extended magazine that will hold 13. With the extended mag the handle is exactly the same size as the full size version... which is exactly the same size as the one I just sold.
So yeah, I'll take approx. a $150 hit on the "trade in" but the way I see it is I'll make that up in ammo within a dozen or so trips to the range. Plus, I'll get the same gun, chambering a better round, with a larger capacity, with my choice of "frame" size.

This is what I got for my last birthday...
Rock Rivers standard A4 with a 20" stainless steel barrel, free floated quad rail, two stage national match trigger, stand alone rear sight and hogue rubber grips.
It just arrived last week after an 8 week lead time. Perfect timing too because my wife gave birth to our daughter 3 days later.
Wild game and boyfriends beware!

Nice Dan. Is it 223, 556, 6.8 ?? I also agree about the GAP ammo. I almost bought a Glock 38 in 45 GAP and decided against it due to the reasons you stated above.

The AR is a .223 Wylde chamber... shoots 5.56 or .223.
I just found the XD I want for $531. I can get Trijicon night sights on it for an even $600. Sweet!
I originally paid $450 for the GAP... sold it to a friend for $350 two years later (the shop I bought it from offered $180!!!) Since then, the XD's have gone up in price, but another $200 still gets me a brand new gun with the bonuses I mentioned above.

I got mine for $425 being "slightly" used. I gave it a thorough check over and it looks great. I got the Service model in black.

Not a bad price at all. One of the shops I called had a used ("like new") XD45acp compact service model for $525. That comes with two 13rd mags, a case, holster and loader, right?
