Skeet shooting is simple. Take a 12ga shotgun (or whatever you've got), load it with light birdshot, toss the clay pidgeon (or pidgeons if you are any good) from the thrower and shoot them in the air. I kind of suck at it but it's fun anyway.
I'm not much of a shotgunner, mostly been into pistol sports.
I really did get rid of all my guns a few months ago though. The walther I picked up is just for traveling with (CCW in 27 states last I checked, maybe more now) and the 870 is for skeet shooting. I won't be keeping them at home, just get them when I need them.
Gooseneck, have some fun with that new pistol. Here's to you getting all A zones. I know we aren't that far apart but don't know how close we actually are...maybe someday we can get together and burn up a few hundred rounds.

The PPK you mean?
I have never been skeet shooting but with bird shot you kind of take some of the skill out of it don't you? I mean, in a way, with the spray.
I like sniping personally. When I first started shooting with a shot gun, Dad was surprised my very first shot was a clean hit. As I progressed (or just moved towards) rifles and pistols, same thing. My state requires a mandatory class and I love shooting with a tight grouping, especially being female, I'll admit it, I like confusing the guys.
I have a weak point though, admittedly up front. I'm a good shot, but what takes the most concentration for me is iron sites. I lollipop it and I do fine, but it still takes more out of me.
PS: I think we should all get together and go shooting (don't leave the chick out of the deal, guys!)

Well you gotta admit, it'd be kind of neat if we all got together. Most of us know each other from the forum...a lot of forums have in person meetings,...heck, why not a meeting of the gun-toting psychos, and anyone else who wants to come along?
Personally I think it would be neat to meet the people in person who I've been chatting with for years.

Up for discussion: Is the walther PPK the pistol that James Bond uses?

Yeah, try it. No one shoots skeet with a pistol or rifle. It's a shotgun sport. Really it's practice for bird hunting, but I don't bird hunt...so it's a sport.

Of course you wouldn't be left out. Of course you are a long way from here. I love shootin with women. Something about a woman with a gun...or driving a fire truck. And yes, I've been embarrassed by women at the pool hall AND at the range. But it's still great fun and a great way to socialize in a safe setting. Earlier in life, many a first date started out at the range. Always a great selling point, "you know there won't be any unwanted advances...you'll be armed."

I think so. It's the one I carry most often when I carry because it's little, non threatening, easily concealable, and packs a pretty good punch for it's size.

I know it's a shotgun sport (thus my comment about the spray). I don't hunt, never have (I leave the dirty work to those who slaughter and package the meat,....I'd rather take a person down than an animal,....yet I wear leather and eat meat,....I a hypocrite).
And as for dates starting out at the range, two of my boyfriends did the same thing. Man do they teach you guys this in school or something: How to be your lady's best friend?
A long way from Area 51 -- tis true! Ppprtthhhh.

Passed my class with flying colors this morning, however I didnt get to shoot my gun, so I'm going to the range tomorrow. We should meet sometime for some range shooting maybe in a month or so, if possible. Merrida, Andy and I both live in western NC so I'm afraid you'd have to come down here to participate.

Well as much as I'd love to meet up with you and Andy at the range, I don't see a trip anywhere near the Carolinas in my future any time soon. Out of curiosity, either of you guys Semper Fi material with Parris being so close?
It's too bad there isn't a way we can meet a range,...bugger all.

I could add this as an edit, but I'm not going to: I never thought a discussion about guns could go on this long in the DF forum......how enticing.

Of course you passed your class. Good class insn't it? But how did you get out of having the live fire part of the class? It's not terribly strict, just draw from concealement, fire 6 into the target that's only like 21 feet away, make safe, and re-holster. The instructor, other students, or your foot are none shot...you pass.
Yes, I feel a future range trip coming up. Meridda, too bad you are so far away. We live in the part of the USA where we can shoot what we want, when we want, how we want...except Franklin, one town over. By state law you have to get your neighbor's permission before shooting at your house. But even over there at one of my places, I'm my own neighbor on two sides. And my brother, dad, uncle, other uncle, and aunt are neighbors all around. 666 acres of shooting heaven.
Edit: today was a good day for the skeet...they all got away.

I did have to do the live fire part, 1yd, 3yd, 5yd, 10yd, 15yd. Shot all bullseye except at 15yds, I grouped them at 4". My biggest problem was its an outdoor range and I was shaking from being so damn cold this morning. Probably didnt help at all. I'm going to an indoor range tomorrow afternoon to shoot my XD.
