Could it be possible i have a thyroid problem?

Alright everyone, im a 21 year old male and have been wondering if maybe I have a thyroid problem as of late. Thyroid problems run through my mothers side of the family as she has a thyroid problem as well as two of her brothers. Now for what makes me think maybe there is a possibility.

1. I am almost always tired
2. I feel that my libido is extremely low, (remember im only 21, seems weird)
3. I sweat a ton for no reason. Im 5'10, 200 pounds, 12-14% bodyfat.

Now I dont know much about over or under- active thyroids, but im thinking maybe it could be what is causing these problems. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Get blood work and urinalysis done at your next physical for a full workup to know for sure.

Could be low testosterone, GH or cortisol levels either.

Not too many people are 12%bf at 200lbs with poor thyroid functioning but still possible.

Are you cold often?
Do you suffer puffiness/ water retention?
Is your hair thinning especially from eyebrows?
Have you a slow metabolism?
Do you have a slow digestive system?

You will need a full blood hormonal and biochem profile to be taken to be sure of anythin.

Go to the doc and get a free testosterone level done, and a GHP.

Then you'll know. Sorry that's the test for free test in the system...not a free test. Actual cost is about $150.00

Well I was thinking it could be a testosterone problem too. Just seems like it would be strange for a 21 year old to have test problems. Also wouldnt it be really hard to put on any size if it was a test problem?

Then again I answered the exact same as you and my thyroid was out but so were other things.

Only way to know is full blood panel

yeah, something just seems out of whack. I will go get tested this weekend. Anyone know if insurance will cover it?

If you dont mind me asking, since you answered the same way as me, what was the diagnosis?

Bear in mind that many different conditions can produce the symptoms you mentioned, so I agree with Max in that a full blood panel would be helpful, compared to exclusively checking T3/T4/T7 or whatever the new tests are, and also the free test.

But I'd definitely check with your doc. If insurance doesn't cover your visit or tests, most will make arrangements for payment plans. You may want to make sure you get things ruled out now early on before they potentially evolve into something less manageable. You're worth it dude. Don't let the price stop you when it comes to your health.
