How far would you go?
To respect tradition that probably "the rest of the world" (I say that loosely, obviously) may observe as archaic.
In certain Native American cultures, when an immediate relative dies, the kin cut their hair. The men shave their heads, and we women are given more laxity (I think that comes through time).
So, I cut my hair off. Over 1-1/2 feet of hair, gone.
So I've got people in my life who find this observation silly and archaic. And yet, I'm with my family observing one of many traditions.
Would you follow tradition such as this? Would you perceive it as archaic? Would you respect the fact that it revolves around death, and that carries with it more weight? What if it did not involve death? Different values assigned?
Curious....(and admittedly this is fresh because I just had my hair cut yesterday, so the wound's still a bit open).
.
Sorry all, I forgot I posted this. I just am in a reminiscent piece of life, perhaps because of Father's Day? Sorry for the double post y'all.
