New Year's gym traffic
So I rolled into my gym a few minutes past 6 this morning and the parking lot sure had alot of cars, and almost all the cardio equipment was in use. During December during the early morning, I thought I owned the place. It felt like when I lived on 5 acres, lots of space. This morning had more of a city feel.
Wonder how long it will last?
The fat farm is in full production. Nice to have more people to make small talk with.

Ahh the New Year's resolutionists. Before I started working out at home, I used to dread this time of year at the gym. I've noticed it starts dying down in February and things are back to normal in March.

not past febuary, but I wouldn't know?
I'm sure this thread will get alot of complaints about these people, but remember this, these people are probilly the real reason why YOUR gym is in buisness? these people pay and never go, so you can have all the machines/squat racks to yourself, thank 'em!!!!
I like the way you put it though Pierini, sometimes small talk and training work well.

That's a good point. Gyms crave these people because it's the easiest money they can make. Kind of like how stores rake in money in unused or lost gift cards. You figure most people sign up for a year and dont use the membership again after the first or second month.

the gym I used to go was right next to my work, I stopped going totally about 4years ago just cause I didn't want to spend that amount for once in a blue moon, but turned out I cancelled right when they got bought out by a huge chain, and my last few sessions in there were very uncomfortable, as the new "watch commander" seemed nervious about things like "powercleans".
before that you knew all the faces, and even on new years you only saw about 5-new faces, now it's a very popular place, but I don't know what's inside now, they rebuilt it. I'm sure it would be great for most, but it does not cater to me really (not that I care now anyway), but at that age I really didn't understand and would've complained about those people, now i see!!!
point if your a "lifter" and go to a small gym, thank'em cause most small gyms can't survive now.

First two weeks of the year are the worst, then they start dropping like flies after that. Worse for me are after local high schools & colleges are done with their spring semesters. I can handle people hogging up the cardio equip because generally, I like to do my cardio outdoors. Having a whole bunch of teenagers/young 20somethings take up all the weights, leave them all over the place, throwing 35lb dumbells on the floor after doing chest presses as if they had done a max rep of 150, etc. al. kills me. Granted, I'm 23, but go to the gym to workout.

That's because as all the newbies pulled into the facility, they noticed that the 5lb. dumbbells, butt blaster and Xerdisc were all missing and headed for the commercial gym as fast as possible.

My gym is crazy crowed now. I can't wait until February/March when they stop going. It is like you need to put your name on a list to use the equipment. I know in a few weeks most of them will stop going. But still... I want to get in and out with minimum wait times to do what I need to do.

Less of a problem at 6:00 a.m. in the morning. I would sure hate the Monday 5:00 p.m. rush crowd traffic for the bench press.

heres a tip, remember generally mon/wed are national arm and chest day, so plan NOT to train those on them days, you may need to check out the other day in question because chest and arms is ALWAYS 3-days a week, but it could be fri. or sat. afternoon (usually fri. night), but again investigate!!!!

The YMCA I go to while I'm in Baltimore hasn't been to bad. Been going between 10-11 am and the weights are practically unused. Cardio machines are in use, but there are some that aren't.
I DREAD going back to college and trying to use our gym. It's just as bad as any other gym. People trying to work off the holiday weight gain and I have athletic teams I get to fight for use of the weights with.
HOPEFULLY I have my workout schedule during times when people are either sleeping or in classes, I HOPE!!!
