The question is a bit confusing... pant size and waist size should be the same. When you buy pants, the size is under "waist" then you look at the inseam. I am 32 x 32.
If you have a 38 waist and squeezing into a 34-35 pant, you must have major male camel-toe....LOL

Not quite true. You need to get pants that are about an inch shorter than waist, for if the pant size was exactly the same as the waist, then the pants would just fall off - pressure+friction is what holds them up.
And, American made pants are like 3 inches bigger than the indicated size - so a 34 inch pant here actually has a width of about 37 inches. Apparently putting in the actual size makes people feel fat

The largest circumference around my abdomon is about 34.25", just below the navel. My pants are all size 32, and they fit loosely. Ironically,, I have one pair of size 33 that are a little tight. My chest is about 39.75 ".

Now all you men will understand what it's like for us gals to find pants. Women's pants sizes not only have no relation to waist size or inseam, but also vary from brand to brand as many brands make their sizes bigger to make women feel smaller.

I just take the easy way out. I go to the store, grab the first pair of 32x34 jeans I find. If they are too big, I send them back. If they are too little I send them back. If they are just right, I keep them.
