RIP Sir Edmund

He's gone but will never be forgotten. What a legacy; Sir Edmund Hillary was a personal hero of mine and a truly inspirational character. I think he proved that with courage and determination there truly are no limits to what a person can do.

Goodbye Sir Edmund.

Along with the first Sherpa guide to climb it as a white guy's assistant. It is politically correct to give credit to both men these days.

You are right; my mistake not to include his sherpa!

His name was Tenzing Norgay.

Knowing Sir Edmond Hilary was the first to climb it won me a sub in a radio contest 14 years ago, lol. Then I threw out Tenzing's name and made the DJ speechless! He wasn't sure if I was BSing him or not. Ahhhh - the good ole days!

Godspeed to both men.....

Sorry IM, I was just being lazy. Tenzing Norgay was referenced in the news article I read about Hillary's death, but I did not take the time to look it up.

(Right now I'm, trying to get my head around the expression "his sherpa". )

Actually, Hillary was first, but didn't admit it until after Norgay's death. Norgay was right behind him, and undoubtedly, Hillary couldn't have done it without him.
