Add track & field for me too. I've been fortunate to attend a day during the 1984 Olympics in
Los Angeles, one national, 2 Olympic Trials and 2 NCAA Division I meets. During the first Olympic Trials meet I went to, I was present for all 10 days of competition, morning and evening, including the race walking events. I sure got a good suntan with all that.
In addition, I saw Tommie Smith set a world record in the 220
yard dash (prior to metric) of 20:00 when I was a young boy.
Watching the 4x400 meter relay final is very exciting, both at the high school and collegiate level, and checking the athletic women jumpers and pole vaulters is very pleasant to the eyes. I could go on and on.
Another sport I witnessed during the 1984 Olympics was weightlifting. That was the Olympics the Soviet-bloc countries boycotted because the USA had boycotted the Moscow Olympics 4 years earlier. I attended the finals for the 181 lb. division and it was very exciting. I like the silence that builds when the lifter approaches the stage and goes through his final moments of concentration before attacking the bar. I'd like to see more weightlifting competition.
