advice on supplements

I need advice bodybuilding. I am 34 and out of shape. I used to lift when I was younger, and now I want to get back into it. Can anybody tell me what Kinds of supplements they would recommend. What really works? I need to lose body fat and pack on mass and muscle. So for all intents and purposes I would be a beginner. I have seen all kinds of stuff that claims great results, but, I don't know anything about these supplements.

Any advice as far as stuff you mix in a drink to vitamins in a pill form will be greatly helpful. Thanks.

These days all that really 'works' is a good old protein powder and a strong sports multi-vit..... don't even look at anything else on the shelf you'd be wasting your money, I wouldn't try creatine just yet.... get to know your body first.

Just as a follow-up to the last post, I don't think that creatine would be a good choice at any point because in the majority of people it just increases water retention and not much else.

you're starting to sound a lot like a broken record player with no understanding of what you're talking about whatsoever.

I use two different Proteins, Whey and Casein.

Glutamine, Creatine, Multi-Vitamin, Calcium.

kenyon21: I'll have to ask fitmeister to post his 'before & after' pics (totally 'natural'). I'm pretty confident that when you view them you just might be eating some crow. What the hell ... it's extra protein, right? :

this thread and this particular post of his aren't what brought about what i said to him; it's the combination of every post he makes about supplement advice denouncing every single supplement, including protein powders, and completely and utterly useless.

i'm all for having the opinion that supplements aren't for everyone and that some of them do not help you make very high gains, but saying that no supplements help you in any way at all is just plain old ignorance.

personally i don't use creatine anymore, it never did me very much good when i did use it. having the opinion that creatine isn't worthwhile and worth the money is fine, but saying that creatine does no one any good is just stupid.

once again, i have nothing against people who choose not to use supplements of any kind for whatever personal reason, but to say that all supplements are totally useless is just misinforming people who are asking for advice, and that's not something i can agree with.

Thanks for the post kenyon. I have to agree with you that [some] supplements CAN make a difference ... if you understand how to effectively mesh them into your total fitness program. NOT grasping their fit, or feeling that they will somehow magically transform Jack's bean into a giant bean-stalk is nearsighted.
