ALA...... Cure for Common Cold.....?

My girlfriend got sick yesterday.....

She had a high fever and felt like throwing up. She called me up from her school crying, and told me she was going home. I drove an hour to get to school only to drive back before my first class started (we live together). I took care of her and got her food and water and monitored her temperature. Thats when it hit me. After reading up on the effects of ALA, I did a search just to be sure, but there was nothing linking ALA with treatment of a common cold. I figured its an anti-oxident like vitamin c, of which helps ward of colds. I also read that it recycles vitamin c and e within the body producing better results. I gave her 200mg with vitamin c and b, and 200mg later when she woke up from her nap. This morning she woke up feeling much better and able to go to school. Im just wondering on your thoughts. Did it help her get better or am I just thinking this is a miracle supplement. Well see if I catch what she had, if I dont, Ill be more convinced the ALA helped prevent it.

hmm..I can't say it was the ALA, but the Vit C must have helped in her recovery. I take C all the time and haven't had a cold in ages.
I'm sure you'll find something about colds and ALA on the WEB. Worth looking into.

I have read that ALA may help with the ability to absorb Vitamin C.

Not going to school and sleeping all day, as well as letting the fever run, helps your immune system FAR more than any pill ever could.

I dont think 1 day of supplements is going to make all that much difference. Maybe help recovery along faster. Dunno. I take multi-vitamin, c, e, coq10, glutamine, and beta-carotene almost daily and can't remember last time i got ill.

I do know that many 24-48 hour colds/flu symptoms people get are actually misdiagnosed cases of food poisonings of various degrees. Did you go out to eat somewhere or pick up to go the day before? Fever, naseua (sp), and weakness are typical signs of food poisoning.
