Can taking supplements/vitamins shoot down your immune system?


Can taking supplements/vitamins shoot down your immune system?
Is it possible for your immune system to be shot down by taking supplements.

I was taking ZMA (Zinc-Magnesum) Every day, for some reason I got really sick .... I had the flu for two weeks in a row ..could it be due to those pills ......b/c of this i stopped taking all supplments alltogether

I am toning up these days.....

please tell me which of these supplements i should start taking & which are garabage

FlaxSeed Fish Oil Pills (2 capsules)
ZMA
Normal Vitamins
Kreatine (creatine in pill form)

I don't know about specific supplements, but I can't see any way vitamins would harm your immune system unless you're overdosing. Even with vitamins, you will still get sick sometimes, and it's not the vitamins that are to blame.

The best prevention for the flu is prudent handwashing and the flu vaccine.

i think i might be overdosing the supplements or taking the supplements at the wrong times ??? for some reason i been notcing that whenver i take vitamins (centrum) i start getting sick ......

look yo wanna know what I do?

I am currently using vitamin shoppes multivit. but one thing ive noticed with all vitamins...

Serving size 2 Capsules
Vitamin A 2000% DA
Vitamin B 4000% DA
Vitamin C 3000% DA
Niacin 17000% DA


Get my point so far? Why take 2 capsules, when 1 capsule is sufficient... further more why not just break one capsule in half, and take it one half in morning, one half late evening preferably after workout....

that would make 25% of suggest serving size which will still equal everything out to be about 500% DA, which is still more than enough, which your pee is still turning colors which means youre still wasting the goods, but not as much, and maybe it would help cut down on OD'ing Just a suggestion.

Also, the supplements you are taking are fine... fishoil, vitamins, and creatine are perfect investments, As Long as You eat plentiful, plenty of Meat and Veggies n Fruit n Fats like nuts and beans n stuff...

as for the ZMA I like the concept but I heard its a waste, plus theres zinc and Magnese in your vitamins anyways.

the reason i am taking ZMA, which might be a stupid one, and i know alot of people will say stuff like "you are growing son, dont mess w/ testosterone." but the reason i am taking it is to increase testosterone, and get aggresive in a sense. I have a very very weak immune system, i get sick very easily and it last forever. the problem with vitamin c is that whenever i drink the juice, i get sick?? i know it doesnt make sense as it increases your immune but for me its different

I dont know if it is the supplements or maybe myself... but this is what i noticed when I took each of these supplements. I have stopped taking supplements all together.

(2 tab before dinner) FlaxSeed Fish Oil: my hands would get watery

(3 tab in the mornin) ZMA: i would get severe head pains, (as if someone hit me with a hammer)

(1 tab daily before sleeping ) Centrum : My immune system would go down, I would get sick if i miss a serving

(1 tab daily after working out) Kreatine: <-- i had a Q on this: (I have had this for over a year now, does this expire, or is it okay if i take it again) No problems w/ kreatine the only reason i dont take it is cause' its old.

(1 tab daily) Claritin for allergies .before sleeping ...

thats like 8 tab in different timings. let me know what you think

well ZMA, yea its to increase test levels, but overall it doesnt do much more than get you a better sleep... which does increase test levels, but Id say it aint that spectacular... as for the headaches I have no clue...

Vitamins Ive noticed the same thing, I feel more prone to sinus attacks and just weak overall when I dont take them for a longated period.

fishoil/flaxseed... Im assuming you mean they get clammy, or sweaty... who cares. Mine are always too, although I dont take EFA supplements, you can never really go wrong with an EFA supplement.. thats money well spent.

Creatine... thats a good question, maybe someone else can answer, and help answer your questions... its always nice to have multiple opinions and answers just to see if its consistent advice you are getting, ya know?

overall you just got to remember not to skimp out when it comes to food... you cant just take those fish/flax oil caps and expect to need eat things like nuts, beans, fish and other stuff that have actual Fats in them, or you cant take your vitamins and expect to never eat veggies n fruits... point is you have to eat the stuff even though you take a supplement for that... You might already know that, but I just wanna make that clear. supplements are not replacements... they are just an addition to an already good diet.
