Creatine & Boxing Training?

Dear All,

While I was at my local boxing gym I got talking to a regular user, he has a great physique the sort of physique i'd love to have after i'd questioned him about his training methods him informs me he uses Creatine, then when he 'cuts' he uses CLA then goes back to the creatine to 'bulk'. Ive put cut and bulk in brackets as he doesnt do this in the literal sense. Getting to the point what are peoples views with using creatine whilst boxing training??

well its going to help your muscular endurance but on the other hand its going to make you gain water weight.... now exactly what you need for weighing in. anyway, don't start to think that creatine is waht made his physique what it is. creatine won't make you make your muscles big... eating and lifting will. unless you have both of those down you're wasting your time with it. is creatine effective? sure. but its effects wil be very minimal if your boxing training is causing a calorie deficit. if you do decide to take it, make sure that you're drinking enough water, you can get cramps easily if you don't drink enough water while taking creatine.

I was aware of the water intake but thank you for pointing that out too me, so Creatine isn't really going to be that beneficial in terms of power? Using the heavy bag, doing push ups and generally using weights whilst mixing in the obvious cardio that comes with Boxing Training?

It will give you a boost in power but just don't expect it turn you into superman. i don't know how much it will help your punching power, it should help pushups, you will probably notice you can do a few more pushups after taking creatine for a few weeks, and it will help you keep your intensity up throughout your entire workout, your muscles can keep going at a high level a bit longer when using creatine. i was just saying don't expect any miracles. unless you keep training as hard or harder than you already have been, you're not going to get much out of it. however, if you are sure you are going to be training at a high level for a long time, it will probably help you a bit.

Thank you very much, you have been very helpfull. I just have a further couple of points, should I use CEE Creatine instead of the regular?? Im thinking of the water retention! Should I cycle? If so do you recommend a period of time?

Thanks in advance!!

its really up to you, by regular i assume you mean creatine monohydrate. i have never used ethyl ester, but i did use monohydrate and i got some results. i found i was able to keep my workouts a bit longer without burning out. i also gained about 5 pounds of water weight. you may want to cycle. there isn't really any evidence to say that you have to cycle, but there haven't been enough studies on its long term effects. if you do decide to cycle, try a month and a couple weeks off
