Creatine & Glutamine Timing

Hi,

I take 5g of Creatine and 5g of Glutamine before a workout followed by 35g of Whey.

1/2 an hour before a workout I mix the glutamine and creatine together with a pint of water, swill it down, then down 1/2pint milk with Whey.

What’s the best timing for these and is it beneficial to drink creatine and glutamine together.

Ignorance is bliss

I have heard that taking glutamine by itself is the best way. Otherwise, other proteins compete and glutamine loses. Don't know if there is a difference when you add creatine to the mix. I usually take it with my post workout whey drink and it seems to work OK for me that way.

Iron, thanks for the reply

Please humour me because I dont understand!

Which is the most beneficial to have before a workout? Protein or Glutamine.

What time is the most beneficial to use glutamine ?

I really want to get the max out of the supplements I use so any help would be great

Thanks in advance

Prior to a workout I would have to say the best thing to use is straight amino acids. I would use the protein post workout, and the glutamine throughout the day on an empty stomach. Like when you wake up first thing in the morning. Dump some glutamine in a glass of water and chug it down. You can also do that 10 to 15 minutes before a meal. This will give you maximum use out of your supps.

Lightbulb

Post workout you want carbs, to stop your catabolic state. Then you want protein (amino acids) around so you can build muscle. Keep eating every hour for at least 3 hrs. Nothing huge, but you don't want all that protein leaking right back out of your muscles.

Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body. You want protein and glutamine after a workout. There is no measurable difference between before and right after. I start drinking while I'm working out, then finish it off at the end of my workout. I don't get far if I'm stuffed when I start my workout. 15g's is great. 40g protein.

Like Iron said, have the same thing when you wake up. I usually have toast/butter/jam and a pure protein shake w/ some glutamine in the am.

Hope that helps.
