Post workout you want carbs, to stop your
catabolic state. Then you want protein (amino acids) around so you can build muscle. Keep eating every hour for at least 3 hrs. Nothing huge, but you don't want all that protein leaking right back out of your muscles.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body. You want protein and glutamine after a workout. There is no measurable difference between before and right after. I start drinking while I'm working out, then finish it off at the end of my workout. I don't get far if I'm stuffed when I start my workout. 15g's is great. 40g protein.
Like Iron said, have the same thing when you wake up. I usually have toast/butter/jam and a pure
protein shake w/ some glutamine in the am.
Hope that helps.
