Creatine and Muscle Tear

A friend of mine tore his left pec muscle last night when he upped his bench weight from 185 to 200. The doctor's theory is it was caused by the creatine he was taking. Apparently the theory is:

"Creatine makes the muscles tight...which makes it easier to break down thus enabling quicker muscle gains but at heavy weights you have to be careful not to overdo it since with the muscles tighter it is easier to tear them as well"

Any opinions, suggestions?

I guess I could see how the muscles would be "tighter" due to the increased volume of water within each muscle. I think it is premature though to say the creatine is the culprit of a muscle tear. I think proper stretching and warming up would help to prevent these things from happening. I'm not a doctor though so I dont have any scientific backing to my opinion.
