Different protein powder, different results?

I was told by a personal trainer that I should be taking protein powder in shakes or milk etc. I was wondering if it is necessary, if it actualy gives results, and if there is a difference between the different products out there. Some of them say lean protein, whey protein, etc. I have never taken a supplement of any kind ever, so am very much in the dark on this. If anyone has any input or ideas that would be great!

Thanks

Amanda

Protein powders are very good in helping your body get the necessary protein it needs to help build muscle. Protein powders are all pretty much the same with exceptions that some don't taste or mix very well. Protein powders are just an easy way to get protein in your system without eating a ton of food but shouldn't be the only thing you eat.

Whey protein is derived from milk and lean protein comes from lean meats like chicken, beef and fish. A high proetin and low carb eating habits help build muscle and lose body fat.

I kind of wrapped things up quick but hopefully you get the general idea.

good luck . . . . . . . .. . ..

Whether or not you need to supplement your dietary intake with a protein powder is going to depend on what your daily eating habits are like. You MAY benefit, and then again you may not.

There actually is a wide range of quality in protein powders. Several have less than half their weight/volume in protein ... so what's in the other half? Looking at the serving size (typically 28.5 oz) look at the amount of protein contained. With some it will be 22 oz, with others it might be 25 oz ... or even 14 oz (obviously not a good choice). This is just one way that you can make a more quality choice when shopping for protein.

Yup . . . . I tried to say that! Really . . . . . .

If your not very big or not looking to add a ton of muscle Cursor's right on in that you may not need it if you have good eating habits. Protein sticky at the top of the page will give you some opinions as to what brand seems to work best for people.

I am definitely not looking to bulk up at all, I'm looking to build some more muscle mass in my upper body and abs (not alot) since I don't have any definition at all right now. So if I am eating a balanced, healthy diet, are you saying protein supplement is probably not neccessary, because that was my first instinct!
