melteye...yes, cigarettes will damage the lungs more, but marijuana still damages the lungs. Just about every pot smoker that I know has a chronic cough all the time so it must do something to the lungs. And I'm sure if somebody smoked marijuana everyday like they did with cigarettes, they would eventually get cancer cause marijuana does have carcinogens in it. Plus, whatever marijuana does to the brain changing brain chemistry doesn't sound too healthy. If you have different opinions, that's o.k cause everybody has the right to their own opinions. Nobody is making you feel guilty cause obviously you can do what you want and make your own life decisions. There's research that supports both non-negative and negative things about smoking marijuana so who knows which side to believe. I personally believe the side that talks about how negative marijuana is, and that's just how I feel. Everybody has the right to their own opinions.

Which is healthier one "bowl" a day or 14-20 like a few tobacco smokers I knew... The obvious answer is marijuana. The "changes" to the brain you speak of is just a rush of dopamine...

This is a very good point. Most marijuana smokers I know don't actually cough but make themselves cough clear their throat of a slight phlegm that builds up from smoking (similar to tobacco). This is especially apparent (and they might not purposely cough) if they smoke from pipes or joints often instead of a cleaner alternative (bongs & vaporizers). I only use a bong... I don't have any more phlegm then usual and don't cough.

But smoking anything isn't good for you, if you want 100% performance don't smoke marijuana or tobacco...

Smart use = Good use

Do not abuse any drug.

I have a couple things to add. First of all:

http://www.drugwarfacts.com/

READ IT. Then go rent the movie "Grass" Narrated by Woody Harrelson and WATCH IT. It is amazing the amount of propagandous bull**** our government spreads about things when it decides they are "bad." The only reason that alcohol and tobacco are still around is because both require processing before they can be used and it has become an industry that has a huge lobbying power. Farmers and private growers of cannabis don't have nearly the power that RJR or Budweiser does... LOL. The only REAL scientific tests that have been conducted in America were with nearly lethal doses to monkeys that no human could ever obtain in their system no matter how hard they tried.

With that said. Once you do a little bit a research and realize that most of the info coming from American media or government is bull****, here is my personal addition.

You can use cannabis and avoid almost all of the possible side effects (other than the munchies of course) by using it in moderation and using a convection vaporizer. There is absolutely no damage done to the lungs if you are not breathing smoke!

By moderation I mean no more than once a week. (short term memory loss is only common with HEAVY users and it goes away after cessation of use)

With a vaporizor there is no smoke and very little harm to the lungs if any. It is like inhaling warm aromatic air, i would venture to say that breathing in the airborn chemicals while cleaning your bath tub would be far worse for you.

In my experience, I would consider 4 heavy nights of vaporizing WAY better for you, both physically and mentally than 1 single night of drinking. And believe me that I have more than enough exeperience with both. I am not some fat slob sitting behind a computer and I am in very good condition. Pretty much anything can be detrimental to your health, but you have to find the happy medium of how much you are willing to sacrifice in various aspects of your life to achieve what makes you the happiest.

Life is simple economics, you have to realize the opportunity cost of anything you do and weight the worth of the outcome in the grand scale to your overall amount of "happiness" in life. I live this way, and it has worked out well so far. At this point I really don't feel ANY detrimental affects fromt the infrequent use of cannabis, but the effect of alcohol is MORE than noted. Alcohol hurts my performance in pretty much every way, from the motivation to get up in the morning and make it to the gym to the actual energy I have while lifting. I am a firm believer that alcohol is the single biggest problem in our society ( I still continue to abuse it and that even weighs into why I believe this )

I should stop now because i am rambling, but I am similar to melteye in the respect that I am tired of people ALWAYS frowning upon cannabis just because it is illegal in our country. I do not trust the government to know what is best for me, I rely on my own research, experience, and conclusions to decide what I will and will not do.

What is this vaporizor? I thought anything that you breathe in goes to your lungs? And if the smoke doesn't go into your lungs with this vaporizor, then how does the weed absorb to make people high?

THC vaporizes at a lower temperature than plant matter. A vaporizer heats an enclosed area (which contains marijuana) and the THC forms a "mist" in the air... So you don't combust plant matter. This is a VERY clean alternative... Very little smoke is formed. (almost no smoke)

O.k, I just looked at that site, and wow, $650 for that thing? LOL I think most marijuana smokers won't buy that cause it's too expensive and they are too busy spending a lot of money on buying the weed itself. That would be funny seeing a TV commercial on "The Volcano Vaporizer". LOL But anyway, a lot of marijuana users state that they don't trust what the government says about marijuana, but isn't it the same thing if I said that I don't trust what marijuana users say about marijuana? This is a valid point of mine, think about it. There is research that said that marijuana has negative effects, and there is research that said that marijuana doesn't have negative effects. And how do I know that a whole bunch of marijuana users and researchers didn't just put up a whole bunch of info on how marijuana doesn't have negative effects just so that they can try and get it legalized so that they can smoke it without breaking the law so that they get their way? If the weed smokers can say that the government is wrong on what they say, then I or other people can say that the weed smokers are wrong on what they say, it's the same thing. Who knows the truth cause there's different research to both sides, but everybody has the right to believe in their own truth about it. I'm not disrespecting any weed smokers cause they have a right to believe what they believe and choose what they want to do, I'm just stating my opinion here, so it's all good.

Their are many reasons for marijuana not being legalized, but the simplest answer affects us all; The economy. If you search around for information on the material hemp you'll see plenty of reasons for capitalists to worry I gurantee you will. If marijuana is legalized it would affect:

1) Cotton industry
2) Lumbar industry
3) Tobacco companies

Marijuana is an amazing plant, in a space the size of a closet a user could grow enough to support himself forever. Even a few if you wanted to. The government can not profit off of marijuana.

Let's listen to a few things our government has said about marijuana in the past...

"Marijuana is for mexicans, philipinos and entertainers"

"Marijuana makes white women look for sexual relationships with blacks"

Look at movies like Reefer Madness... It's display of marijuana is completely screwed...

I trust scientists, not potheads... And I would NEVER trust our government. Our government lies to us more then most people care to admit... Thats a fact.

Just look around the world... Whats happening with marijuana there? You'd be amazed.

And that is a very expensive vaporizer. If you look around you can find many for under $100. But if your taking marijuana for medicine or your serious about fitness you might want to invest in a very reliable and clean vaporizer such as that one.

READ THE RESEARCH THAT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. Your saying that you beleive what the government "told you" instead of what has been tested by legitimate institutions. Our government has massive powers when it comes to propaganda, anyone who doesn't know that is... stupid.

I beleive arguements should be an exchange of data. If you have an opinion that hasn't been addressed by me state your opinion and I will post a reply along with whatever research I can find..

right on melteye. The vaporizor I have was $100 and could not work ANY better. There is no smoke, and it is more efficient than smoking. I also do not get the bloodshot eyes, and couch lock by vaporizing, and my lungs love me.

The tests that have been conducted with marijuana are very misleading. First of all, the LD50 (lethal dose in 50% of cases) of marijuana is impossible to achieve for a human, this is not true with nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, etc... they are all LETHAL in large quantities and therefore more harmful when abused.

The key to getting enjoyment without suffering side effects is MODERATION. Just like with anything, do you like potatoes? Well don't eat too many because they are lethal in large quantities too! Alcohol has to be one of the worst substances that a person can legally buy and consume. It has been proven to destroy pretty much every large working system in our body... heart, brain, liver, stomach, etc... yet the people that consume it on a regular basis in moderation show none of these side effects (only the hardened alcoholics) and in fact europeans show less signs of hard disease partly attributed to their moderate consumption of alcohol.

Why is it so hard to believe the possibility that just using small amounts of pot periodically could in fact not hurt you especially if you have a form of using it that is not detrimental to your lungs?

The movie that I suggested does a fabulous job of going through all of the lies that the government has used since the weed was first brought to the US in the 1920's. It really is remarkable watching some of the older black and white propagandous videos and seeing the outrages things they claim. The government is STILL up to it's bull**** claiming that "buying pot is supporting terrorism" and the commercials with the girl getting pregnant and the kid shooting his friend. If you have have half of a brain you can see that these are the most assinine things ever created and anyone that actually believes it is brainwashed.

If marijuana was so bad for you, there would be evidence of this in chronic users. When Canada formed the special research team 2 years ago to investigate the possibility of decriminalizing cannabis, they came back and not only said it should be decriminalized, but it should be legalized! Alchohol is the substance that is causing all of the health problems and societal problems that we have. When was the last time you heard about someone high on pot beating their wife? Robbing a gas station? Getting in a fight? Attending an institution for addiction? There is just no reason why tobacco and alcohol should be legal and cannabis not. It is just because people now are so brainwashed and this stigma that the government has attached to it has made it impossible for a "upstanding citizen" to even question the possibility that maybe it isn't so bad.

I've seen research in the past, but I don't know where to find it. But is it the government that is posting all of that? Cause I have heard of scientists and researches not apart of the government that stated that marijuana has negative effects. But I saw that in the past, and I don't know where and how to find that info and I don't feel like wasting my time to find it. I just have my opinion and I'm gonna stick to it. I agree that alcohol and cigarettes are really bad for you, and that's why I don't even do them at all. I never even tried alcohol or cigarettes and I have no interest in trying them, so if I never tried them, I'm not gonna try marijuana either. Those things just aren't part of my life, and I don't feel a need to try them. I can have fun without that stuff. Remember, I have my opinion, and you have yours, and I respect your opinion cause you have a right to believe what you want.

Those commercials really anger me. Supporting terrorism? Look at who grows the marijuana for most users in the US... Citizens. Mine comes from the Chino area:

Americans = Terrorists? Or how about Canada! Evil terrorists!

I have never heard of a marijuana user running over a child in a mcdonalds parking lot, shooting his friend accidently or ending up pregnant because of marijuana... It just doesn't happen like this.

I'm sorry... It wasn't my fault. I drank a beer and it made me hire a monkey to assisinate the president... *sob* It was the beer!

It's like they want to form a hatred against marijuana users... I think it's criminal and I think whoever spread those lies should be punished.

Mustang, I'm glad to hear that you don't smoke or drink... I started lightly drinking and smoking when I was younger. I drank about 1 shot a month average from about 17-18 and very rarely had a cig. At that time my migraines began to get worse and worse (coincedence) and the doctors couldn't give me anything for the pain. I started reading about alternatives and I started doing work for the National Institute of Mental Health; I spent weeks reading information on marijuana's effects on mental disorders and started to read and research other areas as well... Then I started taking marijuana. It has helped me more then any other medication I've ever taken. It has given me more time during the day (I'm not in pain), allows me to eat more then I could before and it releives the effects of a few disorders I have... I stopped smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol completely; there is simply no need or want for them... They make me feel horrible.

Now this medicine that has helped me so much is being slandered and oppressed by bastard capitalists.

Tylenol kills more people then marijuana has... Why don't they spread lies about Alcohol or Nicotone? They'd actually SAVE people instead of pushing them all into jail cells.

melteye, I'm really sorry that you've had a lot of pain. I'm glad that you are getting relief. If marijuana helps you, then it's cool that it's helping you so that you don't live in pain. Taking marijuana is of course a life choice, and everybody does have a right to that choice. I personally wouldn't take it, but for those that do, it's their choice and if they are happy with their decision, it's all good.
