Question

essential fatty acids

I went to the Vitamine store today and i wanted to buy essential fatty acid capsuls. I noticed there were so many different kinds, omega-3, some salmon oil stuff and some flaxeed stuff.

I have no idea which one to buy and the clerk said that the salmon is the best and i should buy that, but i rather post here and ask your opinion before I spend money.

Any suggestions?

I'd buy the Flax Seed Oil over anything else, it has all the O-3's and O-9's EFA from what I've read up on. Correct me if I'm wrong, its been awhile since I've checked. Gotta watch the fish oils because of mercury, and they dont always have what you need in them.

Thanks goose, so this stuff would be ideal to take during the night right? Along with another protein source like shakes or maybe skim milk to slow down the digestion during sleep.

Right now, i eat about 3 spoons of cottage cheese before i go to sleep for slow digesting protein.

Yea, I always take some flax or olive oil at night with my protein shake. You can also take it in the morning, but not after a workout. Sounds like you've the general idea, good luck!

You may want to read Dr. Richard B. Kreider's (Phd, FACSM) article in Fitness Rx for Men, July 2004 issue.

The article strongly encourages men to supplement with Omega-3 Fish Oil. Very good read.

I also agree with taking the Flax Seed Oil over any caplets. However, I also encourage you to get some Fish Oil fats as well as there are differences between Flax and Fish. Here are some articles/threads for you to read:

I've now been told that Flax oil isn't healthy for the prostate in men. What gives?? I need to find out some more about this.
