Expiration and safety

I remember reading at least one person here who buys his stuff that has "expired". How long after an expiration date do you feel safe in consuming say a whey protein product?? I guess it would depend upon the product but my guess is they are following some laws/guidelines that require them to put a date on there when the product really would be good for another year or so. Any thoughts?

Yeah your right, they have to take them off the shelves by law, nothing wrong with them, I have Met-Rx tubs from last summers sales at GNC, got them for £1.99 a tub as opposed to £29.99 lol, perfectly safe and sealed.
