Protein bars are very expensive, but I can get a really good deal on ones that are expired. My question is does the protein still remain the same even if they are expired? I would think that the vitamins added would lose their potentcy, but the protein would all still be there.
I don't care about the vitamins in them because I take multis anyway. I just want them for a high protein, low carb snack. Thanks

How far past the expiry date are they? If they are just past and no more I would eat them no worries, I think it would be safe to assume all manufacturers would allow a 'buffer zone' between the time stamped on the packaging to the actual date the product is expected to spoil. This I believe is a common practice to safeguard against lawsuits against products spoiling prematurely.
ehhhhh i dont know growinUP, If i was a manf i would want my products last as long as they can. I say if its expired move along and put out the few extra bucks for fresh bars. There are many web sites that offer bars cheap.
a year old?! you're crazy... i wouldn't touch stuff that old, you might get sick. Or even if you don't, you could just be wasting money and time if they lost their potency.
movdude, search web sites, im not goign to advertise ,but you can find them cheap. For example GNC and my gym sell detour bars for 3.00 a bar. A box of 12 = $36.00
I founds plenty of sites where you can get A box of 12 for 21.00! and their fresh.
Even me: the most frugle guy of all (even too frugle to become a premier member!!) would say no thanks to one of those bars! A year sounds like too far past it for me.
I have a whole range of out of date bars - there is nothing wrong with the bars, its just obviously by law they have to take them down off the shelves, eat up bro.. and take your time
Buy one if it does not make you deathly ill, enjoy.
However, I was in a similar situtation and spoke with a rep at a store and he explained that manufactors label the experation date on many products to be three years after the manufactor date.
So if the experation date is one year old, the product is four years old. Based on this info. I went with the new. There are not to many items I would (knowingly) eat 4 years after they are made.
Bon apetit
