I know green tea is supposed to aid, plus it is really good for your immune system. Regarding flax seed I only heard that it eases weight loss in people afflicted with obesity. Hope I helped!

Some supplements may help with metabolism. Green tea is supposedly among them. Flax oil is considered one of the " healthy fats" and may be beneficial for fat loss too but most important is NUTRITION, EXERCISE, AND NUTRITION. Sorry, it's just that simple. Just as you can't supplement your way into big muscles, you can't supplement yourself into a lean body. Eat 10-15 calories/lb. Eat the right macros for YOUR METABOLIC NEEDS. Get your reistance training. Get your cardio...and it will happen for you.
I've read that CLA is beneficial for fat loss. Personally, in my 8 week trial of it I did not notice any difference from using it over what I was accomplishing with diet and exercise. Others will disagree with me and say it's a great help. Be warned though, it IS a trans fat and my not be good for your overall health if used for a long time.
Other supplements that supposedly help are things like "ripped fuel" and it's realtives can help control hunger. But guess what? I don't reccomend those either. Again, look at the health impact of what you take.
Green tea? Perhaps it helps with fat loss, perhaps not. However, once again, look at the health impact. It' has excellent anti-oxidant properties. This means that it may help improve your health and make you live longer. Why not drink it anyway even if it doesn't help with fat loss. I have about 5 cups a night just because I like the taste.
Flax seed, borage oil, fish oil...the EFA's. I'm sorry, this is a topic I know very little about. I'm a fan of fat, no matter the type. Perhaps maxgain will see this thread and have some input. He seems really knowledgable about EFA supplementation.

I also drink green tea simply because I love the stuff! But, just to satisfy my own curiosity, does anyone know if white tea has the same metabolic effects as green tea does (or is supposed to)? I know it's loaded with antioxidants (maybe more than green tea), but I'm just curious if the metabolic effects are similar.
FYI: If any of you haven't tried white tea, you really should!

Liftgirl, I read an interesting tea article but my memory fails me I don't remember where it was. The difference between green tea, white tea, and black tea is simply that green tea hasn't been fermented yet, white tea is from a different leaf and hasn't been fermented, black tea has been fermented to enhance the flavor.
All have beneficial properties and positive metabolic effects because of the caffeine. If you drink decaf (and I do)...then I don't know.

Green tea offers more thermogenic compounds for fat loss than simply caffeine. This site discusses some of the studies done with green tea and fat loss (like all such sites on the internet, take with a grain of salt if they are selling products).

White tea isn't quite a different leaf, it's the baby leaves and buds that come out in the spring. It costs a bit more because of the limited time it can be harvested, but it's sure a treat.
I know it has caffeine, but I was under the impression, like IM says, that there is something else in it that contributes to fat loss. Anyway, I'm sure the effect (if any) is very small. I was just curious if white tea contained those same "mystery thermogenic compounds."
I usually go for regular in the afternoon when I start getting real sleepy after lunch. If I want something decaf, I usually go herbal, although I sometimes get decaf. I mostly drink green and white, but I like black too and have it sometimes.

Early leaf, not different leaf...gotcha.
I'm going to dig through some of Pam's health food magazines and see if I can find the tea article that I read. It was very interesting. If I can find it and if they will allow it, I'll post it up to share. If not, I'll re-write the important parts and give them credit as a source.

Thanks, Andy, that sounds like an interesting article, given the amount of tea I consume It's funny, though, I only started to drink tea last winter, and I only started to drink iced tea this summer. I always used to hate it.

This is an interesting topic since the home-made tea I make that I keep in the fridge,...I combine bags of green tea and bags of white tea, and sometimes a single bag of a flavored Celestial Seasonings tea (though not often). And of course, no sweetener of any sort.
I'm so glad I don't have a sweet tooth.

I do have a sweet tooth But I still prefer unsweetened tea, now that I've gotten used to it that way.

Out of curiosity, what do you eat when your sweet tooth is getting to you?

I indulge it But just a little. My strategy is to have a little treat after lunch and dinner if I feel like it. Eating a little when I feel like it keeps the sweet tooth from getting out of hand. It's much easier to just eat one chocolate chip cookie when you're already full from a nice dinner than when you're half-starved. It should also minimize insulin spikes from the sugar, with whatever protein and fat I've eaten with that meal moderating the speed at which the sugar gets digested. At least that's my theory.
My guilty pleasures are chocolate chip cookies, or skittles, or sometimes a mini candy bar, things like that. I also like to have a piece of dark chocolate.
As an aside, why do they call mini candy bars the "fun size?" Wouldn't fun size be huuuuuuge?
