Gaba

For a long time, GABA was touted as being a great growth hormone releaser. However, many researchers disagree on the effectiveness of this supplement. Does anyone have any experience with this supplement?

I've never used it but it seems it would be quite expensive for use as a GH releaser. Here is some info:

Gamma Amino Butyric Acid, is an amino acid that functions as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Since GABA does not cross the blood-brain barrier very well (i.e., it cannot be transported efficiently into the brain from the bloodstream), virtually all of the GABA found in the brain is manufactured there. There are studies showing calming, GH releasing, & anticatabolic properties. Relaxing properties may help sex drive. Too much GABA can cause temporary flushing, anxiety, and shortness of breath. High intake of GABA was shown to produce a significant increase in plasma growth-hormone levels (single administration of 5,000 mg) and prolactin (daily administration of 18,000 mg for four days) in one human study. (Cavagnini F, Invitti C, Pinto M. Effect of acute and repeated administration of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) on growth hormone and prolactin secretion in man. Acta Endocrinol 1980;93:149––54.)

High rep workouts (15 per set) with about 60% of 1 rep max will produce GH release also.

Thanks. I wonder how much GABA would be needed to get any across the blood-brain barrier, since it usually inefficient for this purpose. And what dosage of GABA is too high? The reason I am interested in this supplement is because it is one of the main ingredients of Secretagogue-One, which is supposedly a very effective supplement. I wonder how this substance would function in a sublingual spray form

I doubt that a sublingual spray will give you the necessary 5,000 mgs. As for how much is too much I don't know as if that has been determined. 18,000 mg will increase prolactin which is a contributor (according to the boards) of gyno.
