Getting a good body VS. Maintaining a good body


This summer I ran close to an hour a day and was very strict about what I ate. By doing this I was able to get good muscle definition but it was very hard to do. I did not eat much was bustin my butt running. I did not lift weights. Now I am getting into weights. Since I have the definition I want do I need to continue to starve myself and run all the time? I know a little running will be needed but is it easier to maintain a good body than it is to lose the weight to get the good body? How much cardio does it take to keep the good body? Can I splurge and eat Mc. Donalds every now and then or drink a coke every now and then? Or do I need to maintain a strict diet still to keep my body? Thanks for the help.

It is very difficult to maintain definition while trying to bulk up. That said, run no more than 3 times per week no more than 30 minutes at a time as it is very catabolic. Eat protein throughout the day to help with muscle building. Consume a good post workout drink with carbs and protein to aid in recovery. You can splurge on occasion, but don't go overboard on it. You might want to use a fat blocker before eating a high fat meal at Micky D's, or a carb blocker before a coke.

What if I am not really trying to bulk up. I am mainly lifting light weights with high reps (between 10 and 15 per set). I wouldn't mind bulking up a little but that is not my main goal. I want to keep the definition.

Well if your not looking to bulk, erm.. then to keep the deffinition all your going to need to do is keep up the cardio but only to the extent that iron said , and also keep your diet clean , diet is the key to deffinition.

Quit lifting at high reps. It will not suit your (or much of any) purpose.

Lift between 6-8 or 8-12 reps. Eat about 15*bodyweight in calories and get a healthy split of fats protein and carbs (isocaloric works 33/33/33 or 30/40/30).
