another way to boost glutamine levels is to increase glutathione production - megadoses (1000mg daily, 500mg morning and evening) of Vitamin C helps with that, bigtime.

plus it's a [beep] of a lot cheaper.

Id stick with the simple and cheap antioxidants. Glutamine did **** for me when I took it, but ester c works very well. You build up a lot of free radicals during a workout, which is one of the major reasons for muscle soreness.

I take glutathione along with vitamin C whenever I can remember to. Glutathione is better for a couple reasons; it helps the body naturally to produce glutamine and also works as a free radical chelator. Combined with vit. C, the two work synergistically.

Hey Gooneck, So you would suggest giving that a try over just taking pure glutamine?

When would you suggest I take glutathione w/ vitamin c? In the morning, After workouts... before bed?:

My opinion would be right before your workouts, and then maybe another dose a few hours later or at bedtime. Glutathione is not only a chelator of damaging free radicals due to strenuous muscle breakdown, its also a building block for protein, which should be abundent prior to protein consumption. Vitamin C is water solulable and should really be taken a few times a day in split doses. If you can only lump it into one, take it before your workout.

NAC is another good one, as well as vitamin C.

Is glutamine more for people that are already in pretty good shape and are looking to keep their muscle..or is it also for people who are in the beginning-mid stage of building muscles. (I get sport supplements, including glutamine, for free....so money is not an issue).
