glutamine question

i've heard glutamine is a cell volumizer . . similar to creatine. When u go off creatine you lose teh wayer retention in the muscles. Is the cell volumizing from glutamine also water retention. . or something else. So .. if i take glutamine for about a month . ..and then go off it. ..will i lose the "cell volumization" like u do when u go off creatine?
Also, i curently take a whey protein shake .. which contains a fair bit of glutaimine . .but someone told me it's not the same as buying pure glutaimine by itself. Is this true?

I'm pretty sure that when you go off of glutamine, you lose some cell volumization, but some stays...I'm not totally sure though. As for the glutamine in whey protein, it's not the same as taking glutamine by itself, cause when you take the whey protein, the protein and glutamine compete for absorbtion, and the protein always wins. So that's why you make sure that you take your whey protein and glutamine at different times.

Glutamine is the number one amino acid in muscles.

It can help fill glycogen, which is a carb basically. Glycogen is the major cell volumizer.

Refilling glycogen isn't all that hard (eat). But it's nice to supplements with Glutamine, since most protein supplements don't contain the right amount.

Since glutamine is the most abundant and used, but most required amino acid in the body, it is essential that you supply your body with a steady stream of this substance. Proteins are being built up and broken down continually and Glutamine is a nitrogen donor which plays a pivotal role in the formation of other amino acids - the building blocks of proteins. L-Glutamine supplementation may top up the levels of available free L-Glutamine ready for protein synthesis when catabolism or muscle breakdown occurs.

I would supplement it by taking 3-5 gram doses every few hours throughout the day (but especially right after your workout and right before going to bed)...up to even 40 grams a day if you are lifting extremely hard and have a tendancy to become catabolic easily. But you have to make sure to do everything else right as well...like eating clean and getting plently of rest.

Question

Many of you seem to mix your Glutamine intake with your Protien intake. And today I've purchased some Glutamine.

I've read elsewhere that taking the two together isn't good as they 'fight' each other, is this true?

Many thanks,

Gaffer.

Don't make it more complicated than it is. 1tsp (5g's) for each scoop of protein and you're good to go.
