By crap I meant non-protein. When u buy protein powder, u are only interested in protein(it includes glutamine, valine etc).
The rest is non protein(ash, carbs, fillers -"guar gum", moisture etc).
For whey protein their are two grades:
Whey
protein concentrate, which is what most protein powders contain. Pure WPC is ~80% protein. So the best u can get in a commercial powder is 80%(unless its an xpensive one and has whey isolate). I consider >70% to be decent. 62% is just way too low, are they using an inferior grade??
A better grade is
Whey protein Isolate-its 90-92% protein. More xpensive, more easily digested.
For bulk proteins I recommend:
proteinfactory.com
proteincustomizer.com
Proteinfactory has the advantage u can customize natural sweetners and flavours. It is xtremely hard to find a cheap commercial powder which has no artificial sweetners. Proteinfactory offers stevia(its a natural sweetner) which is cool. Also many flavours like orange etc. U can read up about the various types of protein on their website.
However, its nice to have a diff commercial powder just for a diff taste. Optimum Nutrition has proved to be a popular choice-low price, high protein %(~77 =>rest is cocoa powder, and no dilution of WPC).
